Carpal Tunnel From Straps?

Just recently I’ve switched from chalk to straps. I routinely use them to do deadlifts and shrugs with 600+ lbs, and bent over dumbbell rows with 150+ lb. I’ve been doing this for years, and lately i’ve been waking up with a throbbing or numb sensation in my left hand, ring finger and pinky.

I also have issues with my left shoulder(rotator cuff/bursitis) my father who was a medic in the military said the numbness and throbbing could be from my shoulder and not carpal tunnel from the straps. Anyone else have this or know any effective therapies?

If it is affecting your pinky and ring finger then it is not carpal tunnel syndrome. This sounds more like a neuropathy of the ulnar nerve which innervates those fingers. The only option you really have yourself are NSAIDS like ibuprofen throughout the day because an inflammation somewhere could cause compression of the nerve.

But, even though it goes without saying, go see your doctor. Nobody wants to, but they are trained experts and will provide you with the best treatment.

Outta curiosity, why would you switch from chalk to straps?

FWIW, I like to wear sweatbands on my wrists when I use straps. This causes less pinching of the wrists.[/quote]
