I’m trying to reap out the most “hearth health” benefits out of my cardio sessions without losing too much muscle.
Strictly for “heart health” benefits, how long does the cardio workout have to be? 20-30 mins, 45 mins, 60 mins? How many times a week?
Again, strictly for health, is it better to jog on flat surface or fast walking on an incline?
Thanks (I don’t care about fat loss since I am relatively lean).
Any reference to studies or articles would be much appreciated… I have been looking for a long time.
Personally I think it would be best to utilize a longer easier day of cardio, and some other days of HIIT like training. For the longer days I would do 30-45 minutes of steady slow cardio, and the HIIT like days for 20-30 minutes. I would do each session at least one times a week. I believe this is optimal because you will hit all the different types of energy systems with these two types of “cardio”. But for “heart health” I think the better option is slow steady state.

Thanks, that’s what I figured.
