Hey guys,
So I really can’t close grip bench with any amount of weight due to shoulder pain. I have tried tucking my elbows but it doesn’t help. I have tried. I have tried doing extra rear delt work but that doesn’t seem to be helping either. I can’t even do any close grip push-ups either. I feel the pain pretty much in between the front and side delts. I always do some form of shoulder warm up before I bench but nothing seems to help. Anybody have any ideas on how I can alleviate this? Thx
Where do you grip the bar normally and with a close grip?
I usually put my pointer finger on the rings. Lately I have been going with my middle finger on the rings but any narrower than that the shoulder will start hurting
That’s a pretty wide close grip.
If while standing, you put your hand on the opposite shoulder then lift your elbow, do you get pain?
I understand that’s not a close grip press by any means. Just saying that’s all I am able to do. And yes, doing as you said does give me pain
Try close-grip bench from pins, putting the pins about 6" from your chest. So essentially doing the tol half of the range of motion. You can also try floor close-grip bench press.
