Some strong dudes here, just like to bring back up the point of strength levels, it definitely must be far rarer to see in the UK for a start, as far as i know we don’t have too many huge powerlifting warehouse style gyms.
In my University gym we have a guy (think hes 22 now, WR total as junior 21?) 397/507/705… case in point though when i saw him benching 140kg for reps that is by far and away the most I have seen benched so far in the 2 years I have been training, I have yet to actually see someone deadlift above around 180kg whilst I have been in the gym, though I have seen insane bent over rows that indicate 200+ deadlifts. Squatting wise the most I have seen is still about 150kg or so… as you can see it could be easy to trick yourself into thinking there is no one moving these figures when obviously there is quite a few, I have lots of years work to do ![]()
Edit: Obviously genetics matter for specialities but I’d say bench of 300 is surely the rarest of the 3 figures in this thread, the rest I could see myself reaching (relitively) soon[/quote]
You need a new gym. I lift in quite a small gym, not a warehouse type place at all. There are probably 10 or 15 guys I know of with 400+ squats, I’m one of them. Probably a similar number of people pulling over 450lbs, not sure if I count as I don’t deadlift much, last time I did I pulled 400 fairly easily after having not deadlifted in two years. Bench-wise there are more than 10-15 guys at that gym doing more than 300lbs, I’m definitely not one of them.
There are plenty of people putting up serious numbers over here, but I agree that there are a lot of gyms around with few people lifting anything serious. Can breed complacency, but then I saw my gym owner front squat 400lbs at about 200lbs bodyweight the other day… double bodyweight front squat, now there’s a goal…

Well that’s the “general impression” I get, especially based on the other 3 or 4 gyms I have used around my area and I think it would offer an explanation as to why some people think certain lifts are hard to believe when they are so doable.
As for the gym I’m at- it’s actually equipped really well and 70% + of the guys in there are of an above average decent size/strength and have above average physiques (don’t want to get into specifics of what I mean by that thanks). Case in point the majority of people are very hard working and performance/heavy weights based, just in these 3 particular lifts I only quite rarely see people performing them, when they are repping such high DB’s incline pressing and bent over rowing so much I assume they are also capable of above most of these figures. The fact a (high-level) powerlifter chooses to train there despite graduating University this year, with the knowledge of there being a powerlifting gym in the city center (Leeds) to me indicates this place has some potential.
So yeah I just mean it’s something I picked up on, that’s all.
I mate
yes for all three. Plus the Curls
Yes, I can!
335/425/455 and going for 365/455/505 by the end of the year.
Bench 300 squat 345 to parallel will hit 405 early next year deadlift 415 450 hex bar.
I can do all three. The bench is a max the squat and deadlift I can rep 4-8. Have vids from a year ago in profile without a belt weight 180
probably like 20 pounds away on the squat, still got a ways to go on the bench because I had shoulder problems.
just got my 455 deadlift yesterday.
Squat is 405
Bench is 340.
The hardest for me is the deadlift. Some of the weight you guys can pull is impressive.
The benching comes easy for me as opposed to the other two.
I used to be able to do all three, but can no longer do any of them.
I tried a 300lb. bench about a year ago, thinking I could still do it, and got pinned under the bar (I was alone in the gym).

Well, damnit, now tell the rest of the story. You’re not dead, soooo… how’d you get the weight back up?

I would think he didnt have collars on it and tilted the bar so the weights slid off one side then slid off the other

I escaped by rolling the bar over my body. It was the worst thing I ever did. For a few minutes I didn’t think I was going to make it, but when I felt my shit getting crushed by a 300lb barbell, I knew I was still alive.
