Can you get fat from staying up late?

I’ve been staying up late this whole week mostly because ive been trying to get some ass. I did a few times but thats not the point! i feel like I have covered my abs with a layer of fat that never used to be there. Is it from staying up late? I get 8 hours of sleep… but my sleeping pattern is fucked up now… thanks

When i first got into college i missed out on alot because i tried to do everything right. I finally said realized that a lot of little things dont really matter. Im a hell of a lot bigger now than i was then. Im not as lean but i dont really watch what i eat cause i burn a shit load of calories and try to eat to gain size.

It’s probably water retention due to a disruption of bodily rhythms provoking a stress response. Now if you were staying up really late and not sleeping enough this in my opinion can lead to extra fat gain. However, in your case…you’re staying up late chasing that ass…so you’re getting the exercise and sleep so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Hey Spencer, since you’re staying up later, are you eating an extra meal therefore getting more calories during the day?
Be careful with what you tell us you’re ‘eating’…
At any rate, T.J. Duckett probably wouldn’t mind if his fullback had some extra fat as long as he could still knock a linebacker on his ass…

well, i dont think directly staying up later can lead to fat gain because when you are awake your body burns more calories. maybe if you ate an extra meal during the time you would have been sleeping, but last time i checked ass and poon tang dont have a very high caloric value. as far as sleeping goes, it is definately better to get on a consistent pattern. dont worry about it though it shouldnt be that big of a deal. anyone else here think spencer is suffering from “minutia”. just kidding, keep up the good work.

younger people arent neccessarily meant to goto bed early. It could be the change though

Well, if you’re chasing ass at a watering hole, it could be all those extra “alcohol calories”…or bloating from the anti-nutritious snacks people munch on in such places…just a thought.

Dude it has to be a dietary result. (Could be hormonal but I doubt it.)
If anything sleeping less means more calories burned-so you wouldn’t get fat…

The surprising answer is that lack of sleep CAN make you fat. A recent study showed that insulin resistance increased when a person was sleep-deprived. A person sleeping only 7 hours versus someone sleeping 9 hours had something like 40% (if my memory serves me) more circulating insulin. We are getting less sleep than in the past. A person at the turn of the century got 9 hours of sleep per night. The average adult today gets about 7. It is postulated that it is one of reasons for the ballooning rates of diabetes. I don’t know that the lack of sleep can have such a dramatic acute effect as in your case, but over time, I believe it can.

The turn of the century was 18 months ago.

One thing to remember with sleep is that consistency is almost as important as number of hours. You need to get your 8 hours or whatever (some need more, some less) but you also need to get them at about the same time every night.

Ha ha. Thanks Merlin. I guess I’m still in the 20th century. I meant turn of the century circa 1900.

I am aware of that study. it has to do with carbohydrate metabolism. I don’t beleive if he is NOT totally sleep deprived it would effect him.
Remember it is proven that while most of us need 8 hours of sleep to function many people (for no known reason) can get by with only 3-4 hours per night.

i dont drink… 1. illegal 2. it tastes like shit hehe

If you work in the medical field which is 24/7 and split shifts, what do you do?

I work a split shift now (6am-1pm, or 12pm-7am). I don’t have problems with getting enough sleep.

However, I’m trying to get a job at a hospital in the area and the only opening they have right now is 12 hr. night shifts (7pm-7:30am) …then add college hours (varies- 8am-2 or 3 pm) it’s going to be hard to sleep well.

… averaged maybe 4 hours a night for a few weeks for this very reason. Then I got too much ass and averaged maybe 2-3 hours for over a week. Moral - ass will make you fat so skip it if you want to be cut. Actually, Im not losing cuts or vascularity, but 240 bench reps are getting harder. More importantly though, get the ass dawg - you need to meet at least 5 people each night you go out. 5 girls is ideal but just get mobile and light. Look out for the opportunities to make a light comment ("nice carpet in here huh, how about that guy over there, what is “barbeque flavour” anyway, anything light). A short converation counts for “one” but you obviously want to take it much further although a phone number is a W cause first night classy ass is rare. The heavy, once in a blue moon “hi Im spence and youre purdy” will NEVER work. Even if she thinks you are the shit, she will be too scared. Plus youre over exposed and vulnerable like going straight for a suplex. Yep - think of it like wrestling - light, balanced (not sticking you neck out on hail mary moves unless you know for a fact they are certain), agile, ACTIVE THOUGH, create movement (with light non commital banter), look for an opening, watch your level changes (follow her - look for signals), find the opening and THEN AND ONLY THEN go for the leg but make sure you penetrate - to make sure you arent off balance that is :). Speaking of ass and wrestling, I think it helps in the sack like nothing else and I actually refer to it as wrastlin. First time I was with my girl I said afterwards “man, you lost that match badly - you cant keep going to your back like that” and she, playing along said “but I like it, plus I dont know any moves” so I said “I could tell, but dont worry cause I will teach you” DRE - WANTIN TO HELP TMEN GET THE POONANNY SINCE DAY ONE.

dre, got no friend to talk to? reminds me of the football player in “cruel intentions”. yawn
