Can someone help me build a nautilus pullover machine?

So i ran out of money and am on hard times

Would like to build this to keep my mind off of the investment gone bad situation… i flew too close to the sun

Can someone here show me how to build this machine out of wood it seems possible i just don’t know how to build the cams and the measurements of them to match the strength curves of the muscle. i can build the frame out of wood and the cams out of wood, then use bike chains and sprockets.

The cams are compound curves. You need to lay out the points of the various segments then draw the radius of the given segment size from that point. Might as well draw the whole circle and just use the part you need.

The distance from the axis of rotation is the leverage.

If you’re good with systems of equations using polynomials in the form of x²+y²=r² you can maybe graph it on a calculator or graph paper.

Sorry to hear about the current dilemma.

Easy way to get a spiral is with a string, dowel rod, and pen. Attach the pen to the string and wrap the other end of the string around the dowel rod (or any cylinder shaped object. Unwind/unwrap the pen from around the dowel rod over a piece of wood/paper and you will begin to trace out a spiral shape similar to the nautilus sea shell.

Different sizes of dowel rod will give you a different profile and you can mess with it a bit with a pen to get a shape you want.

If you are doing this out of wood and are using a cable to move a weight stack you may want to make three cam profiles out of wood. Two would be identical size then a third slightly smaller. Glue all pieces together with the smallest piece sandwiched in the middle and you should have a decent track / groove for the cable to ride in.

Never built a pullover but if I were inclined to ever do it this is how I would start experimenting with the can profile.
