Trying to copy the nautilus pullover without spending the money
Resistance bands or pulley system.
i don’t think resistance bands can accomplish the same thing… id have to either come up with my own design or make the plate loaded desin out of wood
not the same… im a big fan of the dumbbell pullovers for their magical effect on the chest- but it is no way a substitute for the rotarty mechanics of the nautilus pullover machine. https://youtu.be/dAbg0R4jRvs
I’ve used it, and I like it, but I don’t know a way to recreate it (I’m not a builder).
I can get somewhat of a similar feel on a straight arm pulldown, but there’s limitations.
I like the pullover linked in the video just because there’s no “dead zone” where I totally lose tension.
interesting i might start doing those then… Im kind of obsessed with the idea of pre exhausted the lats.
They’re a great exercise. I love to incorporate these. The band really makes all the difference for keeping continuous tension. They have a large capacity for progressive overload as well if you’re into that!
I’d give them maybe 3 sessions to see if you like them. The first time I tried, it was awkward to get into position. The second time, I started getting the hang. By the third time, I could really push them. If you don’t like them by then, that’s probably a more than fair chance to see if they worked for you.
Never seen or tried the Meadows/Milos Banded DB pullover but that looks like a great option. Only used nautilus once or twice as they seem to be rare where I have been lifting over the years so take my suggestions below with that in mind.
Other things I have tried and like is Incline Bench Cable Pullover. You can try a lot of different attachments but a rope seems to get the best feel for me.
The other one is less conventional and at risk of looking like a fool I will share it below here:
Move the incline bench up to a very high incline (almost 90deg) and push it back farther toward the pulley, so you can get in a position more underneath that point like you are plannning to do a lat pulldown for instance.
Then do a mimicking type movement of the “nautilus pullover” (that rotary action you mention) by keeping bent arms and use an EZ Bar handle cable attachment with underhand grip. You won’t obvious get it exactly as a nautilus as there is nothing (no pad, no cam) holding you in a specific movement pattern. But you may be surprised how much more weight you can do this way vs and rope straight arm pulldown and may find the movement pattern a bit closer/unique. You have to be mindful of using your Lats to do the work otherwise this entire thing goes to shit quickly which is the rub with this one.
Also, meadows and Milo’s have way bigger Lats so Banded DB Pullover is probably the solution.
noooo
Wheel + axle to hold said wheel into position + something solid through said wheel (around the edge of wheel) + attach to band or cable system= Maybe, lol.
yess this , same concept i had sketched out. with something to hold the wheels on both sides of the body
Check out this tricep b ench, 1 pulley and a cable. Something like that might be easier to rig up than a double cam machine.
Then you could do pullovers like this.
Does every dude over 40 have these shorts?
Yes we do
I’ve been using bands at home for awhile.
Band anchored about 1 foot overhead. First facing Away to get the top of the move.
Then turning around to get the bottom of the move.
well yeah two of those and that price of 190$, two would cost close to 400$ for which price you can buy a plate loaded chinese replica of the rogers pullover machine
not the same man… all of these pullover with dumbbell and cable variations aren’t direct enough… i need direct and rotational exercise. pretty much a trifecta for back development would be the chins, deadlifts, and seal rows. But recovering from that is the issue. for me chins + pullovers would be sufficient.
this would actually work most productively i just need an inexpensive version lol
