I wanted to start using a cambered bar for bench pressing once and a while, and am curious as to what type of weight would be ideal. I want to use it for 1-3 rep sets (and will probably use a board, so I don’t touch my chest with the bar). My 1RM for a regular bench press is around 300 right now, but I’m assuming trying 300 on the cambered bar might be a bad idea. Any opinions are very much welcome.
Thanks
Its a good idead to increase pec strength, but be very carefull if you are not familiar with your pecs you may rip one right off with this exerscice…also use 2 boards, 1 would be really pushing it…Good Luck Big martin
Any idea on what weight to use? I am pretty clueless…I guess I’ll just have to play around with it, and progressively go heavier…I dunno about two boards though…Maybe the boards at my gym are ultra thick, but it looks like 2 would equal almost four inches of thickness (which is about the depth of the bend in the cambered bar I believe).
I just started with the bar; just to play around at first and get an idea of the “feel”.
A bench with cambered bar for me, is alot less weight than my regular bench. AND it’s not a regular part of my routine. Make sure your shoulder flexibility is decent.
When bigmartin talks about two boards, he is referring to 3" or a little more off of your chest (two 2x6’s…2x lumber doesn’t measure a full two inches).
I’d say my 2 board cambered bar bench is about 30-40lbs less than my regular raw bench.
