Bulking When Already Looking Like ****

An acquaintance of mine once killed himself in part due to a phrase I used when the dart game we were involved in went on endlessly. I said “I don’t care if I win or lose, I just want the game to be over”.

Unfortunately, he applied that phrase to situations in his life that I had no knowledge of and killed himself that evening.
So how do you know that remark set him off? Did he write it in a suicide note or something?

I knew someone would ask that.

I wouldn’t say I knew if I didn’t know, but I’m not going to satisfy your morbid curiousity.

A kid with existing “issues” logs in and you berate him mercilessly. He goes and kills himself.

Aren’t you just as liable as if you sent him some encouraging words?

Few quick notes:

-Convincing a kid to get his blood drawn is a million times easier than getting an anorexic to “just eat a burger.”

-When you have a problem that is just a subcategory of a larger class of problems (obsessive compulsive disorder), there isn’t one simply solution like “Just sack up and eat.” One size doesn’t fit all.

-If a morbidly obese person comes on here and you ridicule them and tell them to “just eat less and exercise more,” are they automatically able to do it? My father has every risk factor there is for cardiovascular disease, and I’ve been trying to help him for 25 years; if it was that easy, don’t you think that I would have stumbled onto this by now? People’s minds work in different ways; they aren’t always going to respond to the same approach.
Thanks Eric…I share your thoughts and feelings on this matter. The kid comes for help and gets a load of crap. That’s not fair but it’s an unfortunate consequence of getting really friggin’ popular. It becomes troll city.

In the early days of the forum, this would have happened to a far lesser extent. Alas, I hope the kid contacts you and I hope you are able to help him.

It may have happened to a far lesser extent because in the early days of this forum, the prevailing theme was-Go Big or Go Home. There were no 125lb. 15 year olds posting pics and disguising medical conditions.

I wish the kid best of luck too, but it seems that a lot of people just don’t get the drift of the site.

Where’s the confusion between Dangerously Hardcore and Help For Eating Disorders?

How do people even arrive at the conclusion that this is a place for that?

You know I felt guilty for a minute there, and then I went back and re read both threads he started.

By the 2 response in the other thread and this one it was stated to Friedrice that he needs help:

“go talk to your coach, you sound like you need some serious 1 on 1 nutrition planning.”

“I’m sorry I don’t think anyone here can help you, your problem is more serious than just wanting to bulk, you need to see a profesional Nutrionalist and Physcolgist.”

" let go of any old ideas you may have about what to eat or why, and re-educate yourself completely. "

“YOU NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP, GO SEE A DOCTOR.”

"Actually I think you should get help anyway because you’re aren’t listening and keep repeating the same fucking mantra. Good luck to you man, I hope you get healthy. "

“Tell your parents you want to see a nutrionalist, I’m sure it is covered by your medical insurance.Tell them your goals and let them help you.”

" think that you should see the nutritionist, hands down. Chances are, hearing whats been said repeated by someone in person will make sure that it sinks in much more than just some Internet text. It will be a good move for you, since you mention having had an eating disorder."

"Actually, though, you claim to have had anorexia. I don’t think you can possibly trust your ideas of body fat percentage. So forget about it entirely. "

"GET FUCKING PROFESSIONAL HELP!! "

I think our responses were perfectly reasonable, we suggested professional help. I know I did, because I know I am not trained to deal with it. And so what there were some off color humor responses as well, thats to be expected.

The majority of us are not equiped to deal with the warped mentality of this disease, so it is perfectly understandable why we might have been frustrated or harsh after his un-waivering responses.

And Eric if you are going to be the professional help he gets, that is great! Thank you for taking the time to help him. (No Sarcasm intended) Because if you can’t help him you have the resources and knowledge to at least point him in the direction of someone that can.

Exactly. I’ve been on this forum since it started. When it started, no kid weighing 150lbs would have even put his picture up stating, “What are my weak points and how do my abs look?”. They would have been run off by any of the MANY regulars on this site. Anyone remember Goldberg? Anyone who thinks this used to be tolerated obviously wasn’t here.

I know. I was a 140 pounder, and I damned sure wasnt going to start posting pics. Twenty five pounds later, I still don’t put them up unless it’s a show your face and be friendly type of thread.

Goldie yeah, what happened to him? I haven’t been around here much the last couple years. Patricia too, she was cool, and her man, Kal I think. Monkey Boy Eric 1812 I think, he had the good tag lines. Yup it was different then for sure.

Goldberg (Jay) is doing well; we chat from time to time. He’s married now and coaching in Georgia. And for the record, Jay is one of the nicest, most understanding guys you’ll ever meet; he’s great with kids and would not have handled this like you seem to be inferring.

Pat and Ko are still around - if you know where to look.

MBE called me last week to tell me he is engaged. His business has taken off and he’s doing very well.

Some became Rugged and staged a great walkout.

Goldberg is still around but under a different name. He hasnt posted in a while.

now to the OP,I’m 5’11 at 220lbs and everyone swears I’m 180…which pisses me off,so until I look 220 I wont stop getting bigger. And yes it can be done because when I started I weighed 130lbs
I share the same experience. I started off at 6’2" and 130 at the age of 14. Now, I am 6’3" and 235. People think I weigh about 205. I won’t stop until I reach 250-260. How did I gain 100 plus pounds? Lifting and eating.

I can understand how it feels to be skinny. When you start seeing gains you will want to push as far as you can. I did. Don’t think one second about body fat percentages and such. You are 15. You shouldn’t worry much about eating clean. If it is food and it doesn’t hurt your stomach, eat it. Eat a lot of it.

Good old Prof. X, 12,621 (no shit) helpful posts and he’s still here. Talk about obsessive compulsive issues…Tell 'em X, takes one to know one, right?

Did she? I had forgotten about her until I clicked on a link that brought me to a T-Vixen roundtable. Goldie had a quit a few pics if I recall correctly.

LOL! Nice. Eric was Rugged not too long ago.

Yep, you can still find some of the old forum vets in other places. Many have come back to T-Nation as well (but may be under a different name).

I’ve been around just as long, and that big bastard has been killing me on the post count lately!

Dang I hit submit before I finished that one. I for one wasn’t reffering to how Goldie or anyone else would have acted on this thread, if the you are taking about is me. My statment was just that. It was different here.

That’s only because you are too short to reach the keyboard without your girl picking you up and sitting you on the table.
