Steely - I see where you’re coming from, weights and measurements are all pretty important, but scale weight is a big factor in my eating habits. The first thing I do every morning is weigh myself (well, after I go potty) and while I don’t expect the number to be higher every morning, I damn sure don’t expect it to be going down.
If I was more precise and exact in my diet I probably wouldn’t care so much, but I’m pretty loose with everything so scale weight moving up means I’m doing my job. Scale weight going down actually kind of makes me nervous, lol.
Maybe it’s all mental, fuck if I know.
Edit - and yes gregron (the guy’s got two first names), I’m 6’5". [/quote]
Oh, I’m not saying it’s not important, it absolutely is, but at this point for me to say “I want to reach 260” doesn’t mean much on it’s own because I’m nowhere near “260 of pure muscle”. If I was much leaner, a number might be more meaningful to me.
To be sure, I’m just speaking as to what works for me. I’m not saying that reaching for a weight number is bad in any way. Quite the opposite, I think for many guys it’s a great way to think of things.
I just know that when I broke 240 (the good 240, not the obese 240), I said to myself “I was 240 BEFORE.” 240 lean and 240 strong and 240 fat are all different 240’s.
Here’s a question today. I really very rarely drink but tonight I had 2 beers with an old German friend because we went to a German restaurant and I had already eaten dinner but didn’t feel like sitting there with a glass of water while he ate.
Anyways, on a bulk whats the real difference between a good German beer and a bowl of Oatmeal? I mean I know for weight loss its not good but I’m trying to gain and have taken to having some good carbs before bed (usually a bowl of oatmeal) to help with this. Would beer be the same thing, better, or worse?

I’m 5’11" or just a tad more (184cm) and I get called tall more than not. Though I am in Asia now. But even back home in Canada no one would call me short unless I tried out for basketball.

I’m gonna say drinking beer wouldnt be “better” than oatmeal… probably taste better but I think having a beer or two every once in a while isnt terrible and shouldnt considerably impact your lifting/progress if you’re busting your ass in the gym like you should.

Most of the calories in beer aren’t from carbs (like oatmeal) - they are from alcohol. Not saying alcohol is terrible but there is a big difference between beer and oats, even if it’s is Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout.
My legs have gotten better on my bulk, though I never got to squat weights I’d be proud to boast of…considering that I was bulking with the idea that I’d make a final push to get really big before I turned 40.
I got up to 265 and am now whittling down, but like I said, without getting as strong as I should have.
