Haha, I love the Bruce Randall example. Yeah, it was worth it to get up to 400 pounds, and then having to diet down to to the 220’s to compete!
He built a great physigue,he did it fast and he lived to be 80.
Pretty solid,dont you think?
Having to cut 180lbs to look ripped is down right dumb and a pure wast of time. If he stayed leaner his diet would of been easier and I bet he could got the same physique in the same time
Who the hell are YOU to critique Mr.America winner in this manner? What are your physigue accomplishments?

Obviously favours the lean gains approach

This looks like a serious back injury in the making

At any body weight lol
Look how tweaked and leaving he is.
It looks like a failed squat attempt.
Read a little about him. Didn’t initially do squats due to a prior injury but loved spine shattering good mornings, which eventually toughened him up well enough to squat 600ish.
At those huge weights he would bend at the knee and effectively do what I’m sure we’ve all seen at our local squat racks, slight bend at the knee and huge bend at the waist. Not the best idea IMO but certainly impressive.
He also used a special curved bar.
Bruce randall was a strength athlete and later decided to cut down. He sure did gain too much fat but I dont think he cared at the time, so it wasn’t a crazy bulk and cut regime as such. He deliberately overate to gain and underare to lose, plus training changes. Both journeys with weights and diet manipulation, kept it simple, interesting bit of reading I thought

Femur to parallel or below = squat
Femur to above parallel = no squat
Assuming we are not talking about some powerlifting federation or other BS, angle of the knees/back have nothing to do with measuring whether or not you made a lift IMO(there are a lot of different ways to squat). I haven’t seen a video, but for speculative purposes, it may have been ugly form or whatever, but the determining factor is whether or not his femur met or broke parallel.
I find this thread funny. A good read. I have never had a six pack from the start, and I had no problem slamming the hell out of food and gaining 40+ lbs in about 7 months. I went through a month where I ate a double quarter pounder with cheese meal every day after I got done helping the local high school with football practice.
I’m not saying that there is only one way to skin a cat, but what I am trying to say is that if you are comfortable doing this, why the hell would you do it any other way? It is much faster. It takes a long time to build lean mass that you can notice. You can build strength almost over night in the beginning. And you can lose the extra when you’re done. Just make sure whatever the hell you’re doing is putting weight on the bar, weight on the scale, and not making you so fat that you are uncomfortable. Beginners make the most progress with lean mass (aka what their calories are going toward), why wouldn’t you maximize that while you can?
Unless you are at risk of a heart attack or have diabetes, cheeseburgers are not the damn enemy. Gallon of whole milk? Why not! Giant bowl of pasta before a squat workout? Sure. Just don’t become a slob. This stuff about staying super lean while trying to gain is unnecessary, and quite frankly, to me, resembles the mindset that comes with eating disorders.
Go look at the thread done cutting. That’s the exact reason you don’t do that. You end up cutting for over a year to get to a decent leanness. Who would ever want to do that?

People just seem to enjoy filling out XL t shirts anyway possible
We know X will come in and “good post” trivium anyways. I don’t know why he even bothers, as if we don’t all already know what he thinks and who he will agree with.
If I had the courage and enough self-esteem to just eat big and forget about how I look for the sake of gains and getting to 20% without caring so much, I’m sure I would make better gains. I don’t mind cutting, actually I prefer it, because I can get control over what I eat and it’s like Me vs Food. Sitting at around 13-15% and looking to gain size, just plain afraid of overeating. Been siting a 160 for 3 weeks now, seems like a mental bridge has to be walked for me to gain more.
