Late to the party, as I usually am… welcome, lots of good guys in here… just watch for the flying squirrels and “Pete & Meats” manscaping tips.
Being a Canuck… Rush is a diet staple up here.

Yeah, I had to check but a little Rush is on my “gym” playlist on the iphone.
Belated welcome and some nice lifting. Looks like you know what the hell you’re doing.
5/3/1 isn’t for everyone, but if you are into powerlifting, it’s pretty decent.
I’m about to start on my 5th month of 5/3/1 and have recently learned (I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer), its all about the accessories. Just make sure you get the 1RM calcs right and keep increasing each cycle to a realistic 1RM. I’d like to do a Sheiko template sometime, just don’t have the gym time luxury right now.

I hear you. I’m gradually building my gym at home. Buying up used 45 lb plates and old olympic bars, scanning Craigslist for a deal on a used power rack, etc.
I find that I can go out and train in the garage a lot better. I’ve been known to watch tv and go out and do sets during commercials. Makes the evening far more productive.
I’m about a third of the way through the book, but I’m taking it a little at a time. Also trying to absorb as much of the I,Bodybuilder stuff as I can to.

Thanks for hopping by. RUSH rules. Goes considerably well with a cold Molson to, eh?
Spent a few seasons in Montreal…
Good times.
Well great news. The pain in my shoulder is a torn muscle.
It’s not a bad tear but it’s been waking me up at night, and diminishing the Ibuprofen supply.
This is actually a first for me, which means I’m either phenominally lucky or I’m not training hard enough most of the time.
Belated welcome. Don’t know about the 5/3/1 but you got some good numbers going for you. Get you some zydeco on the player and you good for at least another 20% on all lifts.
And a bowl of crayfish etouffee with a stick of boudin or some andouille for post workout meal.
Spent some time down south to…
Good times.

Here’s a new favorite warmup exercise. Not sure what you’d call it, but if you go heavy with low reps for a couple of sets, it really seems to have a tonic effect. Gets the Lats all fired up for big pulls.
Last night’s session:
warmup and mobility work…
Yes I finally got the hint and actually do that stuff now.
Trap bar DLs
235x8 twice
325x4 twice
415x3
505x1 twice
Regular DLs
405x3 (touch and go) 2 sets
Nuetral Grip Pull Ups
5 sets 10,8,6,5,4,4,4,3
Pretty shaky by the end. I really didn’t feel like training and am still nursing my shoulder from last Friday, but did what I could. Not listed was a failed DL attempt at 555. Got it up a little way but got stuck. A buddy of mine watching suggested I start training from a defecit since the hole is the hardest spot for me. My current sticking point is pretty low.
Thanks to training heavy rack pulls, once I get the weight past my knees I’m generally home free, or maybe that’s how everyone is.
EDIT: woops 8 sets not 5
nice work , youll fit right in.
rough news about the shoulder , heal up.
and revel in old fart land
Someone else using a trap bar. I haven’t done regular pulls much since getting one. I’ve found it’s much ‘easier’ on my back…as if pulling heavy shit from the floor is ‘easy’.
Hmmm… gonna try tose cable thingies as a warmup tomorrow…

Thanks.
It really sucked the first few days after I did it, but it’s starting to get better. When did my body start taking so long to heal? ![]()

Yeah the first time I did pulls with a trap bar everyone stared at me like I’d grown a new head out of my back or something. I think I even heard one guy ask, “Is he supposed to be doing that?” (do they think it’s only for shrugs?)But I love throwing them in.
It seems like I can go alot heavier than I can with a traditional bar. It could be because grip isn’t holding me back. Also I noticed the first time I used one that my quads fired much harder during the pull.

Hope you like em.
BTW I’ve been doing way more mobility work and even foam rolling, and I guess I see what all the fuss is about. Apparently I’m stiff as a cadaver and tight as a drum most of the time. Mobility for old farts to the rescue!

Rock and Roll. You have come to the right place and are gonna fit right in. Welcome aboard. [/quote]
Indeed, this is the right place. Hope you know that now.
Well I decided to train Military press last night again.
Had to take it slow and light.
Started off with ten minutes of warm up and mobility work.
Standing Military Press:
135x5x2
160x5
185x3x4
170x5x2
Dips:
10x3
By the second set of dips both shoulders were really barking at me. The right one because it’s still trying to heal, and the left because it’s probably playing double duty.
Mobility work at the end as well.
I finished by running on the treadmill. Normally I despise running, but my son is trying to drop weight and he needed the moral support, so we did intervals beside one another for 30 minutes.
Oh yeah and also I dropped a 45 lb. plate on my foot. I can’t win.
Just to keep this alive I am rehabbing my shoulder. Lifting again on it so soon just made things a lot worse.
I did however do some rack pulls with 600 last night. For whatever reason this does nothing bad to my shoulder, but overhead pressing absolutely kills it.
I’m going to potentially start a new thread detailing the gym I’m building in my garage with pictures.
