Building a Huge Front squat Without Back Squats

Hey guys. This isn’t REALLY a bodybuilding question, but i didn’t really know where else to post this.

I have found that I really love front squat way more then back, and due to having long legs proportionally, the front squats are just a better exercise for me.

I have really good flexibility from doing the Olympic lifts for many years but back squat my form just never seems ideal.

Anyways, i know a lot of people who say that the best way to get a huge front squat is to get a big back squat and practice the front squat a lot as well.

has anyone here developed a really big front squat (400lbs or more) by never, or at least very sparingly back squatting?

everybody thinks that sticking with basics is the best. BUT I fucked with back squats long time and nothing really special happens. So I decide to incorporate fronts because of long legs etc (been there done that).

My front squat is now bigger than back ever was. From time to time I’m doing looong sets (20 and more reps) of back skwatzzz, ass to the grass and going just half way up. Just to feel the move and rest a little from fronts. But that’s all.

If you feel them more, can progress better and safer - it’s better

I don’t see why that shouldn’t work. Didn’t Koing do something like that for a time.

ps: Btw, I suck at fs.

If it’s good for Klokov it’s good for you.

Stopped doing back squats entirely about 6 months ago. Do not miss them in the slightest.

During this time I’ve front squatted 2-3 times a week and have added over 100lbs to my max (note that the max wasn’t that respectable to begin with, as I hardly ever front squatted)

Quad development has noticeably improved as well

400lb is a monster front squat, I’ve never seen anyone even do 300lb. Depending on technique I can also see attempting this weight wrecking your wrists.

i have done a front squat of 341 (155kg) @ about 207) and I know many lifters who can do far more then that as well. at around the same time by best back squat was about 420 all ATG.

I have made front squatting 405 @ 200 a LONG term goal for me to strive towards.

as far as wrists go, since i no longer compete in the olympic lifts i usually front squat with straps since i feel i can focus more on the lift vs the hand positioning and i can keep my form a bit tighter.

i have noticed the improvement in Quads as well since front squatting more often then back.
im happy to hear that almost eliminating back squats has been good for you.

Maraudermeat who used to post here did 405x6 with his hand pointing straight forward. No stress at all on the wrists.

DAyum, didn’t know Meat left. Just read up the other thread. am PISSED.

I’ve front squatted 475 lbs, but I was also deadlifting and back squatting quite often at the time as well. Definitely builds your quads up well.

If you don’t plan to compete in PL, and front squats get the results you desire better, ditch back squats.

That’s a good question I was wondering myself since I had to replace back squats altogether from my lifting program. I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell if any improved quad development came from doing them for a couple of months though.

But without the need for starting a new thread, would you guys say from experience that solely working the Front Squat will give you equal quad, glutes development on the same level as the backsquat? Or Better?

Overall, if you had to pick one or the other, I would definitely say the majority of people would get better quad development from front squats. Glutes would most likely go to back squats.

Never seen that hand/arm positioning before. I have been using the crossed arm stance. Might have to give this one a go. Has anyone used a stingray thing when front squatting?
