Buffet Training No More

Hope you got some sleep!!

It’s supposed to be nice here as well, so I too, am going for a bike ride…

Only my scenery won’t be as nice as yours! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wednesday: Upper body

A.Flat bench 2 board presses: 3x5x155
*My plan was to do singles at 190 but my ego was kept in check by Big Jim! My form still needed some serious work so he said it was best to use a weight that I could control in order to focus on fixing my form. My elbows were all winged out and I was instructed to “show the bar some nipple love”. In other words, I was bringing the bar down too high on my chest. Nipple love is just more fun to say. By the end, My form felt much better.

B1.Decline bench:
1x8x115
3x8x120

B2.Chest supported rows:4x8x27.5

C1.Wall slides

C2.DB hammer curls:3x12x25lb dbs

We finished off with light sled dragging for about 15 minutes or so.

Then I got to try the rope!!! This thing is hard core. I totally understand the uncontrollable groans from the youtube video. We did 2x20sec.

At the end of the workout mmgalb introduced me (at my earlier request) to the girl at the gym who I felt kept giving me the “who the hell are you” look over. Normally I wouldn’t care but she is an intimidating looking bodybuilder. She actually was very nice. She also assumed that I had a lot of powerlifting experience and seemed very surprised that I have only been seriously lifting for 5 months. This made me like her even more!

ya, that’s pretty f’ing crazy that you’ve only been lifting for 5 months…The sky is the limit for you!!

I went to rugby practice last night. I had “retired” about a year ago but a lot of my friends who all stopped playing started up again. The schedule is more doable and it is not a University team, so the people are a little more mature.

It was a really good practice. It was kind of interesting, this is the first time I came to my first rugby practice of the season and had no issues with speed or endurance. I haven’t done running sprints in ages but I felt really fast (for me). Plus my joints feel good from all the mobility work.

Gone are the days that I prepare for rugby by going on 2 mile jogs every day. What a waste of time and energy. AND I HATE jogging.

We went out after practice and I gave my big announcement about doing the lifting competition. They all want to come and watch. Partly to cheer me on but mostly because they are fascinated by the singlet. Everyone needs a group of good friends to keep their ego in check.

hahahahaha

My best friend came to my meet and told me I looked pretty, but my singlet was horrible. My brother saw me in my singlet and told me never to wear it in front of him again. The pictures on the site show just how horrible a singlet can be when you combine tightness around the upper thighs from that and the tightness around the lower thighs from knee wraps.

I hope that they come and laugh until I go up there and lift a whole bunch of weight while making scary noises and then they will be too scared to laugh!!!

Actually they decided that the singlet would be pretty intimidating by itself and the whole team should get them and wear them as our rugby uniforms, then the other team would be scared shitless of us.

Congrats on the bench PR!

Saturday: RUGBY DAY

I totally forgot the love hate relationship that is rugby. You spend 80 minutes running around letting out aggression that is not even found in most prisons, then both teams meet up and drink beer like you are the best of friends! It’s beautiful. The girl that I smacked across the head for not letting me go (I yelled at her to let me go several times to no avail) bought me a shot at the bar!!! And I was congratulated by the full back who I stiff armed so hard she went flying as I passed her for a break away run.

And a moment of gloating: The other team chose me as my team’s player of the game!!!

Now for the hate part. The grass made my sinuses go crazy. So by the end of the night I sounded like an old man with emphysema. And by sunday my whole body was bruised and sore from being stepped on and tackled.

I do my Max strength testing on Saturday, so I’m going to take a couple days off from lifting so my body can heal. I will be doing lots of foam rolling and stretching to keep my muscles lose.

I don’t know why I never played Rugby. I’m in love with everything you just described. It sounds like pure, unadulterated, aggressive fun.

You take pride in your war wounds, you fantasize about beating the shit out of people, and you seem to have a high threshold for pain, YEP you would be PERFECT.

Are bar rollouts harder off a box? Are you kneeling on the box? I am able to do 3 sets of 15 and am looking to make them harder.

YEah you kneel on the box and yes it makes them a bit harder. I can’t tell you how much harder. By the time I started these, I hadn’t done the regular ones for a couple months and I know my abs got much stronger in the interim. Definitely let me know if you try them!!!

Oh and great job on the bench PR!!

I tried these today w/two other women. They are harder. I lowered the reps to 8 but will increase them each week. I like them. Great idea

Oh and thanks

I’m glad they added a little extra difficulty to your workout! I do admit that I can’t take credit for these. I was just following the program in Maximum Strength. There are lots of great lifts that I learned from doing this program. The ab stuff was especially cool.

I’m sure you will be back up to 15 reps in no time!

P.S. Thanks for letting me know how they worked for you!

Is there a video I missed or you can link to? I’m slow and can’t do much just by description.

Here is a video of a bar rollout.

But instead of kneeling on the ground (or a pad on the ground as the girl in the video is doing), you get one of those aerobic steps and kneel on that. The elevation from the step adds a little more difficulty!

Thanks very much. I think I’ll try that one. Good thing she isn’t using the octagonal plates on the rack behind her. I’m not sure whether that would make it easier or harder

I can’t stop laughing at this mental picture  It may not work your core as well but it would be SOOOOO funny to watch.

I’m totally excited!!! Tomorrow is the big day!! I will be doing the “moving day” from Max Strength.

Finally I get to test all my maxes after 4 months of lifting. I will post the videos of my bench, box squat, and deadlift.
