Budda's weight gain log...

0800: 3 grams of vitamin C and a RSE drink. Still feel lousy and have no real appetite. I feel really pissed because I can still feel where my triceps are sore from where I’m not recovered properly from lack of sleep and insufficient amounts of food (not sleeping enough and therefore not being able to train hard enough = a loss of appetite)

Sorry, I don’t know. Good question though…I do know that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is derived naturally, no chemicals used in the process, and it is pure (not diluted). That would make me think it would be best. BUTTTT, I dunnnoh.

I learned my lesson…checked out every single bottle of “Fish Oil” on the rack at groceries, drug stores, and on line. The average Fish Oil gel cap pill thing has about 300 mg of Omega 3 in it. In big letters, it says, “1000 mg FISH OIL” But in small letters it says, that same 100 mg of Fish Oil only has like 300 mg of Omega 3 in it.
yeah good shout about the fish oil caps, have to be careful with those or just take a ridiculous amount, ie 8-10 a day to get a reasonable amount.

As for the olive oil - the only difference i know between the two is the extra virgin stuff is always from the very first press. Then any other quality oil will be from the subsequent presses. 2nd, 3rd and so on…So in theory the qualitiy of extra virgin will always be superior, whether that translates into increased amount of omega 3’s? i have no idea.

Dre: funnily enough I haven’t thought to weigh myself since I started my weight gain log! I’ll weigh myself after training later. Last weigh in was about 225LB/16 stone, I’m expecting it to be the same-ish, theres no way I’ll have gained over the last week whilst being ill, no way.

I’m not expecting a great workout I was up half the night coughing, if I’m not over this man flu by the weekend I’ll go to the doc’s and ask for antibiotics I think.
ha fair play - always best to try and avoid the anti-biotics but you’ve had it a few days now so i dont blame you…
I’ve had this cough since the beginning of October, I thought is was virtually cleared up then I woke up last Wednesday morning with it in full force and still feel fucked up. The main reason I want to avoid the doctors is because of all the hassle involved in making an appointment: my doctors are fucking useless. BUT unfortunately I can’t miss any more studying from illness and need to work and ideally train as well, and certainly can’t function on a few hours sleep from being awake coughing all fucking night.

I think I’m catching all this shit from university, each week I’m sat in a germ infested lecture theatre with 300 other people with the windows shut and breathing in all of their fucking germs :frowning:

I must admit defeat and go the antibiotics route ;-(
If its been that long i wouldnt hesitate in getting down there mate. You’ve given your immune system time to beat it itself and obviously it hasnt managed so time to get some drugs!

Btw - what are you studying? are you at Roehampton Uni?

Hi Dre; I’m studying Law but I’m studying in London, not at Roehampton mate, although that would be easier LOL.

I haven’t really been ill this year so far but this is really pissing me off. I’m too ill to train or study productively, but not too ill to not be able to work if you know what i mean.

I haven’t been to the doctors for years and I just need to shake this off now. I’ve always had trouble sleeping to and I think that makes my immune system worse, as do the steroids, at least according to some people, although BBB disagrees with this.

its now 2050, I have a pizza in the oven and have had a tub of ice cream (my GF brought me 'cos I’m ill) and I think I had another shake.

I’m still looking for an answer on the Omega 3 in the Extra Virgin…

Funny thing, I am doing both the oil, and a friend gave me a big bottle of Fish Oil
tablets. I took 8 of em this morning. It just is so easy to glug glug glug a few
swallows of oil.

I did Chest and Calves today. Waiting on Tri’s to do them alone later this week. Avoiding Biceps for a while…so looking at legs and back yet to do this week, and Tri’s maybe Sat.

Today on Chest, I started with this new machine for flat bench, and had 90 lbs on each side of it by the last two sets. Did total of 4 sets.

Then I moved to Decline Barbell bench. Did two sets. Then for the final two sets, I had
a total of 235 lbs on it and did 2 x 10 on the last two sets.

Always makes me wonder what my max would be…but I never want to max out…its too hard on my wrists and elbows. But if I did 4 heavy sets, then another two sets, and then the 7th and 8th set I did 235 for 10 reps…makes me think I could maybe push up 260? (pounds).

Finished with some Dumbell and cable crossover sets for chest.

For calves, did 6 sets of 30 with 200 lbs on machine. Pointed toes inward on all sets…see if I
notice anything different. While experimenting, I turned toes out and noticed the inside of my calf
was really buldging well. I need work on the outside of the calves, so did all sets toes pointed in.

Hey BDBoy,

This works for me when I am sick with a Sinus infection. Clears me up well. Find the spicy flavor, and

of course, need to add chicken for protein.

COuldn’t copy the picture, here is a link

And even if not that brand, just get a bowl of Ramin noodles that is hot and spicy.

TX: with my back back (now a lot better but it will never be truly better) I am in a similar position and have adopted the method of multiple sets of heavy low reps i.e. 8-10 sets of 3-5. If you keep training like this you will minimize the risk of injury, jack up your metabolism all whilst maxing out on volume and building strength. You will then be pleasantly surprised when you are in the condition to test out your max strength. Failing that you could just try working with 3 and 5RM’s, I do this often and its a safer and fun way to test your strength. Even Westside use 3-5RM’s sometimes.

Thanks TX, thats really thoughtful. I’ve just got back to the doctors and said they couldn’t find an infection in my chest. She said if I have a viral infection antibiotics won’t work, I just have to wait it out, but if the antibiotics don’t work and it still doesn’t work she thinks I may have developed mild asthma! Fuck knows how, I’ll just see how I get on, I just hope it clears up. If it is asthma how come the cold has come with it?

Lets just see…

Hang in there Bro. Tough deal. And even though I would not listen to my own advice, …

rest is best !

I found a chart to figure your max, and put in 235 and 8 reps and it gave me

292 !!! NOOOOOO WAYYYYY! I couldn’t move that much weight. But someday

when I have a friend in the gym to spot, I may try it.

Just waiting to (hopefully) get better, I feel quite weak there’s no point trying to train like this I think I’ll hurt myself, I think the safety bar squats the other day strained my back where I wasn’t at my usual strength level.

Yesterday: No workout, ate like shit. First day of antibiotics.

Today: second day of antibiotics. its 1405 I got up 0600 I’ve had 2 shakes, a sugar free RSE drink and a chocolate bar. Don’t feel hungry, day 2 of 7 on antibiotics. No chance of workout. I coughed so hard and long the other night my balls were aching :frowning:

I think thats pretty accurate. Remember you would need to ‘translate’ your 8 rep training into triples or doubles for a couple of workouts then shoot for a 1RM.

I need your upper body strength! I’m hoping to have veins popping outta my delts soon!

Last night ( I never workout in the evening ) I trained at my girls school’s weight room while they did BBall Clinic. I worked with the AD, and went through all the equipment and tuned it up…1- so the kids would use it more and be safer, and 2- so I could use it. (I am too particular !)

Did legs, cause they have a couple leg machines, Dumbells, and a lot of racks .

Started with Dumbell Squats. (the Goblet way), till I did two Dumbells and just held them to the side.

1 x 12 with single 55
1 x 10 with two 60 lb Dumbells
2 x 10 with two 80 lb Dumbells. (Problem, they don’t have any bigger Dumbells…

The first of the last two sets, got about 7 in, then had to rest a second to get the last few in.
Wore my ass out.
The last set, I got the first 6 in. Then had to do the last 4, one at a time. That was tough.

All time high weight for this for me.

Then I did two sets of Barbell Squats, only had about 135 on the bar…no SMITH, and I am not very stable yet with a Barbell.

Then Leg Extensions 1 x 12, 1 x 10, 2 x 10 at 260 on the last two sets.

Followed with Deads, only 165 on the bar, 3 x 12. Finished with Leg curl machine.

New high with the 80’s ! Problem… That was Damn hard !!!

Good work TX!

Day 3 of 7 on the antibiotics. Lost my appetite and only ate a tub of ice cream (my throats sore so this was a nice treat and good way to throw in some additional calories) a mars bar and 2 shakes yesterday, oh and some pizza. ANOTHER day of eating shit! no workout yesterday or today, too weak and tired. I don’t feel any better either :frowning:

I might try and go to the commercial gym and use the steam room but its Saturday so it will be fucking packed so its probably more hassle than its worth.

Just weighed myself 227LB! Thought it would be less
buddaboy wrote:

you’re a brave man! i never weigh myself when i’m ill, scared of what i’ll see. Sounds like you’re not doing too badly though, hope you get better soon mate…

Just watched Derek Poundstone in Chicago at Bros vs Pros ten minutes ago. He was at the event as a guest, and they talked him into coming up to lift. He was in jeans and a T Shirt, and did 30 curls at 165 lbs to defeat the celebrity challenger.

Got my blood work results in yesterday and my cholesterol and red blood cell count(amongst other things) are too high. Bushidobadboy has advised me to cut carbs right down to pre workout chocolate (when I’m well enough to train!) and fruit and veggies. In short no more red meat, pizza and ice cream! I’m off to get a blood draw next week which will reduce blood pressure and lower the RBC count pretty much overnight I hope. I’ve dropped right back down to a HRT dose and won’t go back on to blast until all my numbers are normal again.

I don’t really feel any better and still can’t train, the antibiotics aren’t really helping so its back to the doctors next week if there is no noticeable improvement when the 7 day course is finished.

Eating strictly low carb with a health focus will by default mean lower calories so I’m expecting to lose more fat and some muscle, but If I can maintain a lean 225LB on TRT and keep my existing strength AND get my blood work numbers sorted out I’ll be very happy.

Shit mate, well it sounds like you know what to do and having BBB giving you advice is priceless. As for the cold, sounds like a pain in the ass! Guess you’ll have to get some tests done mate, see whats up.
