Budda's weight gain log...

Just weighed myself: 225LB. Not too sad considering. I’m not unhappy with this.

That aint bad at all…I always assume I will lose a lot when sick. Had a sinus infection in September, lost ten pounds. That goes to kinda show you how hard it is for me to put it on in the first place !!!

To be fair the half lives of the steroids I was on were both like ten days or so which probably helped  Though I’m strictly on HRT now until February or so.

0645: almond tracker and a rockstar energy drink.

0730-0800: Protein drink with MCT and fiber

0900: bacon eggs and 2 brown toast

I may have eaten nothing or had another shake I can’t remember?

1300: 2 mars bars pre workout

LEGZ:
BAND DL: (WARM UP) purple band 60 x 3, x3, 80 x4
blue band 80 x3, x3, x3
red band 80 x1 x2 x4

Front squat: 60 x5 70x5 80 x5 90 x3 100 x3 x3 x3 x3

Belt squat wide: 70 x5 80 x5 90 x3 100 x3 x6 x5 x5 x5

Warm down/foam roll

Did chest today. Just chest, no Tris after.

Barbell Flat bench…did warmup x 15,
then second set x 12,
third set x 10,
and
fourth and fifth set, got up 7-8 reps with 245 LBS. !! That is a LOT for me. Not for you BIG fellas, but a TON for me !!!

The crappy thing is that Chest doesn’t bother my elbows at all, until I go to Cable Crossovers and Flys.

I was fine, until the last two sets of Cables Crossovers, then my left elbow started really aching!

I have a feeling I am going to be 85 and still carrying this tendonitis.

With the Cable Crossovers, I turned my fists so they were palms down, and it helped. But I noticed when I did that, it doesn’t work the chest as hard.

My fat picture, I think I prefer the skinny one :frowning:

Little workout today:

Calves: 50 x20, x15, x15 60 x15, x10

Flat bench: 50 x10, 60 x10, 70 x10 x8, 80 x10,

Triceps bar laying OH ext: x15, x15, x12

standing band ab crunch x20 x20 x20

Yeah thats a tricky one, i think when you turn your palms down it results less of stretch and therefore works the muscle that bit less, but if thats the only way you can do them without feeling pain then stick with it. Its certainly better than nothing!

Have you tried dropping the weight and doing 3 second holds in the top position. ONly works on cables, not dumbells, but it may help keep the intensity of the exercise whilst saving your poor joints.

When I lifted on Saturday, I got in the car and just did not feel up to it. (Still lifted…but…)
Got to gym, did some warm up…first time I had used a Pre Workout (NOXplode) in 6 months. I did it
cause I needed the extra energy boost. Waited about 20 minutes, and could not get into it. Finally started doing some deep squats against a pole to try and get my heartrate up. After a couple sets, it kicked in and I got into it.

Did the heaviest bench workout I have ever done. Still VERY, sore today…like painful bruise-type sore.

But yesterday, I spent all day fighting off a cold that tried to get started. Ear ache first one side, then the other…took cold med all day…

Moral to the story, this is about the third time, and you think I would learn. When I don’t feel up to lifting, it is usually cause I am about to catch something. AND, when I stress my system with training, it only makes it easier for the cold to take ahold of me and get sick.

I am winning so far…but it has taken a lot of rest and work to keep from coming down with a cold.

Dont know what happened here, i had posted something but it seems to have disappeared.

Tx - i had suggested when doing your cable crossovers - maybe try and drop the weight a bit but add a 3 second hold at the top of the movement to add intensity whilst decreasing the stress on your joints. Just an idea…

Got back from the gym yesterday, waited an hour and ate dinner then felt sick, laid down for an hour and spent the rest of the night throwing up, going to toilet every half an hour… I hadn’t had an upset stomach like that since I’d been to India. I feel marginally better today, no throwing up but I’m not quite right still. I’m sick of being fucking sick.

TX and DRE: I’m lanky as fuck I find the machine fly hits chest hard (though I’ve never excelled at chest training) and isometric holds for upper body make for a great pump, especially on chest abs and biceps.

Dre and BB,

Good stuff on the chest. It’s odd, when I do bench…I always feel it. Then I know I should finish up with flys or crossovers…and I rarely ever feel those. I am doing sets of 15 or so with the fly and cross…is that the issue? I was thinking it is working the middle of the chest muscles, which aren’t very big, and there isn’t much there. I do get sore though…so it must be working? Today it hurts like mad all over my chest, and in the middle parts too. It’s just wierd, cause the flys and cross are like aerobics compared to the bench lifts…

As I mentioned, I’ve only recently started to train cheat and arms directly. I think with guys as long limbed as us the triceps are going to fatigue long before the chest, following this reasoning I’m going to experiment pre exhausting as I haven’t tried it yet. Also it seems flying movements only seem to give me a sore chest so I’ll start to incorporate those more and use them to pre exhaust.

Personally i find cable fly’s done after benching always gives me a great burn. I dont go heavy but focus on squeezing the shit out of my pecs at the peak of the movement and that seems to do the trick. Atm i’m flying 12.5 or 15kg on either arm. I used to fly 24’s on db but i can honestly say my chest feels better worked after the lower weight cable flys.

As for rep ranges TX - i tend to do the traditional 10-15. Never found doing lower reps on these to be very effective. Its more of a feel exercise imo so rather make every rep count as opposed to just trying to move as much weight as poss. I also tend to using a slight decline angle. So I set up the handles just below pec level and finish with my palms facing slightly upward and really squeezing at the top. It works for me, maybe give it a go and see how you feel?

BB - shit man you’re really going through the wars atm. If it makes you feel any better i’m feeling shit too :-! got a chesty cough and my nose and ears are blocked. Although i count myself lucky compared to you, i was still able to train today albeit not at the same intensity as i would normally.

That’s the truth… Flys and crossovers are all so much finess…they are so odd. With bench, you cram on the plates, and push like hell. With flys and cross, you have to “HOPE” you did enough, and did em well enough, and you don’t find out till the next day !!!

I did something last week, and just did Triceps alone, all by themselves. May have done calves too that day, but nothing upper besides T’s. I got the best pumps, and was extremely sore the next day. Started with some larger weight stuff, then ended with some definite, one arm isolation push downs to really hit that little area hard.

It worked well, doing them alone.

But then again, I am not doing Biceps at all…and only doing limited amount of Pull stuff for back…so my week opened up and allowed me to split chest and Triceps apart.

Squat and Hammy day ! WOW, at my age (47), it takes me probably 3-4 minutes between sets to catch my breath when I do Squats !!!

I did the Goblet squats with Dumbells…basically held the Dumbells at my sides…
1 x 15 45 lbs (only one dumbell)
1 x 12 holding two 50 lb Dumbells
1 x 10 two 70’s
2 x 8 two 85’s. Man, that last set sucked!

Did a couple sets of Zurcher Squats, then finished with
similar 5 sets to above on Ham Curl machine. Nice and heavy.

TX: Sorry I forget you’re a little older than us guys when I read about you’re training, good work with these goblet squats, the 85’s aren’t light man.

Dre: Thanks, I hope you don’t catch what I’ve had, EVERYONE round my way is either recovering from it or getting it.

I’m hoping to train tomorrow, I’m going to keep the intensity and volume low whilst my immune system is still weak. I’ve lost like ten pounds since Sunday I’m about 218LB’s now where I’ve not been able to keep food down me :frowning: I went back to Uni today and a woman from my class I haven’t seen for three weeks said “you’ve lost weight, you look slimmer”, I did want to say thanks for noticing but kept that to myself.

Fucking sick, I’m going to get a flu jab in Boots tomorrow

I have to laugh seeing as I’m now lighter, weaker and unhealthier than I was when I started this fucking weight gain log…

I was pleased just to make it into the fucking gym today. I’ve just started getting my appetite back an I have a lot less anabolics in me than I’m used to so I have no idea exactly where I am strength wise. I just want to stop being ill, get food in me then work back up to previous levels of strength but with less volume in each workout as I don’t have the drugs in me to support that at the moment.

chest and arms: Warmup

incline BP: 40 x 10, 50 x 10, 60 x 8, 70 x 7, 80 x 5 (hard, nearly missed last rep) 70 x8, x5,x5

calves 60 x12, 70 x 6, 80 x 10, x10, x10

Hammer curls on EZ curl bar 4 sets

I had no energy after this, I wanted to do over head press’s too, but that wasn’t an option. Pretty lame, but better than nothing.

Stayed in bed nearly all day yesterday, no energy at all, and slept in late this morning.

Tried to exercise today but my whole body is weak and stiff, I couldn’t even get warmed up, I just kept feeling dizzy. This is shit.
