Malibu Walk! The way back was hard. Not difficult hard but in the perma-snow that happens this time of year. The snow that’s melted partway in the day, then refrozen over at night, then melted again for a few days of this cycle of slick hard death= treacherously slippery and hard, hurt your hips walk.
My left bicep is sore today too. Its my dog holding arm and I’ve had my share of solid compact frenchies who are post op back surgery who need to be carried everywhere, a screaming chi-weenie dog who only is quiet when held for hours (trust me the level of volume and pitch of dog screaming that happens if you put this dog down is WAYYYYYY worse then the ache from holding him for hours), scuffing and streching out cats for various restraint needs…my bicep is sore!
A very busy work week too. A case that was ridiculous and ended exactly how it should have ended days before wihtout the drawn out proscess of suffering for the dog.
The owners had other ideas. 3 days on a ventilator, a blood transfusion, sepsis …long story short if was a geriatric dog with a Chordae tendineae rupture ( his heart was breaking apart due to years of congestive heart failure) who really wanted to die but was not allowed to…until he did in epic and grand scale.
A lot of times the owners just don’t know what their pets go through when heroic measures are taken and its very hard to see. They think if they can try they should…or that if they do something medically- that is very expensive- that its a guarantee of success. Medicine is not that straight forward. Its up to the vet to be very clear to them the chances of getting through things, and my vets do this. STILL a lot of times I get upset when it goes too far.
Money doesn’t buy everything! I get very judgmental in cases like this…so much money spent on an animal who was suffering and needed to go to heaven, so much money that could have been spent on helping causes that have a hope of making a difference in someone’s life.
However these people did not want to stop and they had unlimited resources, and kept seeing pieces of the problem and not the MASSIVE one of this dog is beyond hope…and they also requested samples so they can clone this dog.
Cloning a dog is $50,000. I get VERY judgmental!! Not my place I know, and I am respectful and keep my mouth shut of course-- but I get judgmental!
These types of cases make me crazy–and I get angry at the vets who allow this…I get upset a the entire situation! Just because you can does NOT mean you should!!!
