Brute's Book

Today- Malibu Walk!

She got surprisingly quite excited seeing two huskies pulling their owner on a bike in a fake “sled” dog type situation. It was strange!

Her usual reaction to stuff she doesn’t like or that stressed her about other dogs is staying back and hackles up, whining a bit.

This time she got that Dog Police Mode where dogs try and intervene in other dog’s behavior they see as exceptional- like “stop it!” or " I want to be a part of this-- let me in!" Not totally sure what her take was. I think she just wanted to run too  Maybe next time I’ll do some mini sprints.

Bikejoring is a lot of fun. My old boy use to love running the trail with me in tow on my bike helping some.

Cool! I have GOT to stop reading about Jeffery Epstein. The ENTIRE story is so disgusting, sad, and filthy! UGH! Arrogance, treating others like they are disposable and only worth sex, multiple manipulators preying on weak people, multiple greedy bastards looking the other way or enjoying it too…then the final sad desperate suicide. The ENTIRE STORY! UgH!

Bastards. Greedy, weak, duplicitous , ARROGANT!, LUSTING bastards!
See what they can get away with…then kept going for more!

That’s it. Felt good! Hammies felt most perky after! HOLY BUSY at work. Yesterday was one of those days you finish an hour of treatments then go right on to the next, 19 normal patients, 3 isolation patients. Of course as usual having 3 of the patients being cats who all needed blood work first thing threw the whole day off. CATS TAKE FOREVER. You must negotiate with cats ,with dog you do not have to do any such thing.

It shouldn’t surprise me how one persons presence can effect the entire hospital! This one being a doctor who ended up working 25 hours- 25. He was there when I got there Sunday and he was STILL there Monday when I clocked in.

He was the criticalist during the day and also the on call surgeon that night who ended up having 3 ER surgeries…went home and showered , then returned for another 8-12 hour shift. Its ridiculous!

But this is not uncommon- for medicine! A field where you need to be very careful and precise always! You’d think people as smart as medical professionals are we’d stop this nonsense of stupid hours! But no, we don’t and we techs get a bit of that too. I’m way over that time in my life of working forever, FORGET THAT!

Anywho, he’s a great vet. REALLY good but also one of those vets that wants to do everything and anything and often we don’t have the staff to back it up! The days he’s on its always an eye roller because we will be busy, and then he’ll add more stuff onto what he already scheduled…blah blah blah.

He’s on for the next 12 days. I am so wearing my compression socks today.

Malibu Walk!

COOL! I haven’t cleaned a bb in a LONG TIME. I was curious so I tried it today. My body totally unsuited for oly lifts! Log cleans are way easier!

Pleased with the sand bags. I knew in the past I had no real problem loading the 200# on the platform but when I began to try again a few months ago I just could not do it, it was way too high!

I watched an old video of me doing it and I noticed I picked it up “tall ways” and it was way easier then “long ways”. SO I did both today! I am happy I got the “long ways” one up too! Also pleased with the distance PR’s! WOOOOHOOO!!!

That’s that! I am making plans for a lil mini break on my birthday with my girl to the sand dunes in new Mexico! I’ve always wanted to check them out but either had Moss who was not the dog to take on a trip like that, or whatever misc things keeping me from doing so. I did take Nigel to Chicago in 2011- my last vacation- and that was an adventure in an of itself!

Here’s me and Nigel, my first Cane Corso, at Lake Michigan.

And Me and Nigel somewhere downtown in St. Louis! And Nigel on my bed in a hotel- 8 years ago seems like a million years ago.

I have MALIBU NOW! I think she’s down for some road tripping adventures as long as there’s some type of walking involved or hiking! I also have a former truck driver for a Twinnie who wants to drive me there which is even better! :D!!!

My dislike to drive is a major limiting factor for any road trips-- that’s when having a professional around really comes in handy! Its a while away and we’re going to do some mini trips first once its more towards fall to see how Malibu does before–I think she’ll be awesome :)!!!

My poor girl has GI UPSET! I had one of those strange mind reading events when I woke up last night during the night right before I hear Malibu bark her 10th ever bark ( she is very quiet!) in the year I’ve had her! Poor Ma’am had to get out fast with blow outs!

I hope its cleared up…!!! Nothing I can’t handle though since I pretty much clean up other animals’ d-rhea a good chunk of my 40 hour work week!

Cool. I have an intern today  I hope she’s got a decent attitude. End of my shift yesterday was finding a puppy who was looking for Jesus in isolation. I am glad I found her at least before she died which is actually a victory for us techs sometimes. She did not make it but luckily she did not die alone, plenty of people came to help do cpr etc.

She had parvo! NO vaccines! And was 2. Her owner had her strangely vaccinated for everything else but parvo! So it took about 4 days of her going to her regular vet for xrays, etc, trying to see if she had a gi obstruction, getting ultra sounds, all these diagnostics when…she had parvo and no one thought to test her until she came to my job yesterday. It happens! I have been nurse to a puppy who even went to surgery for an explore…and it ended up “just” being parvo…surgery for nothing on a very compromised animal.

:frowning: Poor animal! Poor owners!! The owners did not make it in time to say good bye she did not die alone. CPR is pretty much …a fool’s errand on most dogs, she was looking for Jesus and he came for her.

Having someone there who cares at the end is a big deal. Sorry the puppy didn’t make it.
Hope Malibu’s belly cleared up, I just give me dogs rice and chicken and they usually are over it by the end of the day.

Malibu Walk–She ate some kind of bug and it seems to have bit her BACK on the way down! So far no allergic reaction or anything but it made her a bit sad and probably stings a bit! The rest of the walk she was a tad sullen- still stops to smell everything, but sullen about it!

My intern turned out to be very good, so the next 4 weeks I work with her I hope go just as well as this one did. The best part was multiple times I could tell she was enjoying herself and pleasantly surprised!

She told me right off the bat that her focus and interests are in running laboratory work and lab animal stuff- being a research animal tech which is way different then companion animal like me ( dog’s and cat’s).

Running lab work all day, reading blood films, doing cytologies, urinalysis, etc is very different too yet all techs are typically proficient in it. Most techs do a bit of it all- nursing, lab, fill in the blank related to dogs and cats or whatever animal-you name it. I liked the lab work I did but I don’t do it anymore in my current position.

Any who! I think this was the first time she really got to do patient care as a still-in-school-baby tech-in-the making and it was good to see someone appreciate just how COOL it is!( MY JOB!) It was a very real and honest reaction to experiencing -and understanding- what I get to do! WORD UP!

A Malibu Walk today!

I feel a bit sore today in my quads! WOOOOHOOO!!! I am pleased with teh smith machine back squats! I changed my stance to have my knees/feet a bit closer to my body compared ot how I had been doing it. They felt good.

I am trying to recall what I used to do on that thing ( reps and wt)…years and years ago I did back squats on the smith machine exclusively for a long time, and they definitely pumped up my legs… I also did them 5 days a week. Not going to do that but I’d like to see if I wrote down my reps somewhere…searching my old internet haunts and old emails to see if I can find it.

Kevin Oak also thinks the feet forward, close stance smith squats are great for quads

Malibu Walk! A NICE ONE! Its SEPTEMBER!!! Which means it will only get better outside :D!!! Today it’ll be 99 degrees- however! I have the day off! I got to get my girl out before the lava starts flowing down the streets. The gym was not an inferno either, and I had it to myself until 10 mins before I left. Extra 2 hour of sleep was great!

First time in at least 6 years ( probably more like 7) I had 135# on my back. No joke, its the heaviest since …a long time. I am going to be ultra slow about loading wt on my back. I might not even pursue it at all and stick to the smith machine. I will see how I feel later today.

I braced to death and used belt and it made a defiantly difference for me to brace better. I do think now I can be one of those people who might pass out on a squat from bracing so hard. I am so afraid of waking up dragon back injury. Smith Machine might be my buddy instead.

I can absolutely say confidently ( now that I brace for things) I never had braced when I back squatted (heavily , voluminously and regularly) AT ALL. I had no concept of that, it didn’t even come into my thoughts. It was alllllllll lower back with the tiniest bit of pop from the bottom with legs. NO more of that!

Its like other things I have added to my training that I just did not know how to do. I am not a naturally coordinated person, I have to really focus to have a mind body connection I believe more then most people.

Kinda a body dyslexia. I get along strong arming things because I don’t have the best fine motor control. Learning to do that has taken time, and I am finally in a place in my life where I have less anxiety, less immediate need to blow off frustrations and angst, and more control, more patience to let myself figure it out.
