oh again: i have a super WIDE bench hand placement… Is it bad that my hands are getting pinched by the rack when I re-rack? wayyyyyy out. I unload it , then spread my hands out. is this because i have weak triceps? mm.

It certainly shortens the ROM. Some people really dig it. How has that effected you in competition? Does it ever play a factor? Also, how is direct tricep work for you?

i’ll let the experienced folks chime in about bench, but i don’t think it necessarily means you have weak triceps…i’ve been told by a few folks to widen my grip so maybe your body just instinctually knows how to get into the strongest position? but yea, take that with a grain of salt, my bench form needs work.

hey dashy and lula : i’ve never done direct tricep work–i hate it. i’m so inexperienced in benching in meets that i can’t really answer if it effects me. i think i’ve gotten wider as of late.

I have done two meets before. My bench limits my success so much! ha ha! but i hate it so i don’t loose sleep over it. Here’s my meet history. i have no one key…i have to copy and paste, and i have the ! on paste right now, I’m saving the one copy for when I write out my wt’s next page. if that makes sense? :smiley:

first one- march 20ten: wt one sixty six pounds, bench one ten–yes that’s all, sq 255 dl 320
second meet december 2ten: wt one fifty five pounds , bench one thirty three, squat 292, dl 336

in the gym I’ve gotten a near near near near near 340 dl. got over my knees only, and a just at paralell 320 sq. Bench has never been more then a questionable one forty. I’ve been stagnant for a year in my progress really :{ last year was hard, I hurt my back a few times and I had some emotional baloney to mettle thru.

Hmm, that is interesting. You’d think with your insanely high deadlift and squat numbers the bench wouldn’t set you back THAT much. It seems like most lifters have one damn frustrating lift that’s way lower than the others anyway.
I dunno, it seems like you’re just kinda manic about your workouts (JUST LIKE ME AGAIN). It’s like your brian is too excited about lifting and getting stronger it’s hard for it to settle down and focus on a program. I get like that too, it’s not so much impatience, just like… anticipation, and it makes the brain go HYPERRR.

Keep your hands no wider than pointer fingers on the rings. You don’t want to get used to benching wider than is permitted in competition, and then lose a bench for it. I bet you’re wanting to go wide because your arms are sooo long. Snap and I compared that once, my ROM is SO short compared to hers because her arms are so long. Makes her a good deadlifter and a shite bencher.

Your form is certainly…not strict? LOL. The first time I saw it I thought “shit she’s gonna dump” and then you finished and danced. It was like balls out hard core kick ass no quit magic. I will say I worry about you hurting yourself at some point.

Be warned that where the rings are on gym bars is not necessarily where they are on competition bars. I found that out the hard way. You may want to take a tape measure, Brute, and mark the maximum width. 81 cm, I think.

And that’s totally it with my squat :frowning: Its bazaar. And I get all hyped up and I can do it a cool amount of wt, but its bad. And I don’t have the patience and the pride check to fix it. I kinda feel I should stop before I fuck myself over. No same in a nice front squat! I think I might like them more now anyways.

Writing all this out make it sound like I’ve given the heave ho to doing serious trained and working up to best myself meets. And I dunno, I might. I know I want to do the march one but honestly financially I can’t swing it. If it was just the meet fee i could maybe, but I’m not current on my usapl stuffs. :frowning: I’m not ruling it out all together, I’ve even requested the days off for it form work. We’ll see.

If i was a bit better of dough wise, I’d do it absolutely . Shitty squat and all just because they are way fun and it’d be a party meet. Still some time between here and there for me to penny pinch.

We should organize a backyard meet…ehh emm… Denver peeps. or a free one where we all go at it at a local gym. We could wear crazy ass costumes like the Mexican wrestlers… I’d make a prize!
