Had a job interview today. Its a completely different set up and type of clinic then I’ve ever done but they were all very cool and nice. It a general practice, dentals, spay neuter, routine surgery type. The main owner vet was shocked at how low I was getting paid at my clinic now…
I wasn’t surprised.
Obviously I’m not in it for the money as a tech, and i do enjoy my job a lot however I often feel underappreciated, overwhelmed with more and more responsibly that keep adding on to our shoulders and not compensated for them, and completely disposal able at a moments notice. Most techs don’t stay a very long time, and the ones that do–like me–are often neglected when it comes to compensation. We stay and show up every day because of our comradeship with fellow techs and the fact that we are enthusiastic about patient care and learning new things, sometimes i fell the hospital runs despite the uncool management.
I feel like my clinic’s personael management is either very out of touch and negligent about its techs, or just plain dismissive and uninterested in our worth. And we do A LOT. But I choose to stay as long as I have for lots of reasons…but …who knows. nice to see the other side. I’m sure my field is not the only one that has this issue!
