I shall wait then until i hear back form him to do more pullups and i will start the shoulder program. I didn’t include any of that info in my email to him except the how many i can do now. ow i have to think of a goal too!..and what the hell my real training age is…could vary greatly depending on the lift versus other stuff. :)! Had a job interview today. Its a completely different set up and type of clinic then I’ve ever done but they were all very cool and nice. It a general practice, dentals, spay neuter, routine surgery type. The main owner vet was shocked at how low I was getting paid at my clinic now…:frowning: I wasn’t surprised.

Obviously I’m not in it for the money as a tech, and i do enjoy my job a lot however I often feel underappreciated, overwhelmed with more and more responsibly that keep adding on to our shoulders and not compensated for them, and completely disposal able at a moments notice. Most techs don’t stay a very long time, and the ones that do–like me–are often neglected when it comes to compensation. We stay and show up every day because of our comradeship with fellow techs and the fact that we are enthusiastic about patient care and learning new things, sometimes i fell the hospital runs despite the uncool management.

I feel like my clinic’s personael management is either very out of touch and negligent about its techs, or just plain dismissive and uninterested in our worth. And we do A LOT. But I choose to stay as long as I have for lots of reasons…but …who knows. nice to see the other side. I’m sure my field is not the only one that has this issue!

ASS Soreness YES! Much desired… ever elusive. Bulgies it is then fo sho!

GL with that new job opp Brute. Listen to me please… do NOT settle for less than the best possible pay. DO NOT. You owe it to yourself. As a Vet Tech its not like there are other benefits to a lower paying job (such as mentoring or better future opportunities) it is your RESPONSIBILITY to yourself and YOUR LIFE to acquire the highest possible paying job. The rest of your life will thank you for the income. You deserve it do not settle for less.

hope the interview pans out something good.

And the only one one who can demand a just salary is yourself. I use payscales all the time to see if I’m properly paid.

That’s unfortunate that you work that hard and don’t feel appreciated. I work for a nonprofit organization and get paid very little but I get treated very well. My boss always asks me how I’m feeling, tells me I’m doing a good job, etc. It really makes that much of a difference. I hope the interview brings you a more positive change! Good luck!

wow at your pullups and your hammies!! super-impressed. great to hear they thought you were getting paid to little at present… i hear what you are saying about not being in it for the money (nobody gets into philosophy for the money, either) but still, pay is a significant part of helping people feel that their work is valued and appreciated. sounds like you are really good at your work, too.

Hey Hallowed–you’re right on it. Its just me looking out for me! …no ones going to feel bad about me having absolutely no money in my old age except for me! and i’ll be busy being poor and busted up!! my company would spit me out in a heart beat…as much as i hate to admit it its completely true. :frowning:

n! its food for thought…its one thing knowing you’rE on the low end of the scale, and quite another being confronted with it point blank. AND ASKED WHY!

Dani–that’s awesome!! appreciation is worth its weight in gold. You must be a asset to your place as well, means a lot when people actually care and it shows your value to everyone.

Alexus-thanks!! i try my best, i’m not the perfect tech but i show up on time everyday and work fucking hard!

update on the work stuff…mysteriously received a call form my supervisor asking me if i wanted to be “temporary weekend icu supervisor” until they can find a replacement for the guy who left a few weeks ago. i’d already been kinda doing that since he left but my supervisor wanted to make sure it was ok with me…more responsibility…etc…he is a great guy and is not the one who is in charge of any of the pay scales and other crap. he’s always an advocate for his techs and its fabulous, so i was honest with him.

told him about the other place and that i’m going to need a raise for good not temporarily and a definitive time frame. my employers tend to be ambivalent about that kinda thing…waiting and waiting…I told him I’d give them the first option to match an offer i get, and that it wasn’t an ultamatem or anything just what i needed for me. he’s awesome and feels our pain…and is probably going to loose 2 techs already to this exact situation i have know.

we’ll see! I still haven’t heard back form the place i went to yesterday officially but on unofficial lines I’ve heard good things:) Its a real trade off…but I’m leaning in one direction … surprising myself while doing so.

i feel very lucky to have an opportunity to get my ass in gear or jump ship or man up and face down my current employers… just a nice push that i need one way or the other. I’m 30 now! no more pussy footing around.

workout wise i heard back from Harry at eltfts. I apparently am an idiot and didn’t know his reply would be online and not in an email! and i already screwed it up a bit :{

well …i was going start the 8 week should thing today but failed to realize i won’t be too happy since i got my octopus worked on too! i need a day or two to let it heal before i can lay on anything. i will do all the things except the ytml’s…since that involves direct belly on bench action!

he said i can do 6 sets of 2 minimally chin over the bar this week and in my excitement and anxiety i did em today!..and cheated…last set i did 4…i got excited! man! its hard to not do more!!!

its going to be hard to wait another week to go at em again… i’m starting to feel a bit of triumph each time i do them more then one.

I hope everything works out for the best with the job!!!
Have you ever thought about going back to school for something else? Like zoologist!!

I’m curious about the ‘pull up guy.’ You just write him and he helps you? or is it a pay for coaching type deal?

hey mim! he’s on elitefts.com the website. you just go to the question section and ask! he or whoever you select writes back and posts it in the q and a spot.

yeah…i can’t pay anyone anything!! also i’m still 5 grand ( was 19k) in debt for student loans! its way daunting to thing of more loans!

Sounds like you’re arming up and fightin Brute. I’m proud of you!

thank you !! and the battle continues. i got an offer today form the place I interview at and they seem really cool, and excited about me they offered more then I’m at now and a opportunity for a increase in 90 days… gotta make some choices.

I feel really fortunate to be here though, either is a good step. i’m trying to be honest with everyone . I told my current place about the offer…the vet field is SMALL and i don’t want to burn bridges if i can avoid it. I find out later tonight what or if they can counter.

would you stay at your current place if they paid more??

I know it isn’t all about the money though.

And I hear ya about going back to school! I kick myself for jumping in too fast.

well! come to find out I am appreciated. After all the info was passed to the hire ups about my situation I was shocked to hear the director of my current clinic without hesitation gave me a better offer, a better position, more responsibility yes, but a NICE increase. AND some kind words!!

so i’m staying! almost a 13% increase!! Simple as that! PRETTY COOL!!!

I hope I’m not making a mistake, the other clinic was so warm and lovely to me and did me a huge solid. but i have to admit it feels really good to hear feedback from my dr’s and the supervisors about my work. The other clinic just helped me so much! its going to be a challenge but i think i can take it on.

word

YAY BRUTUS!

Congrats! A well deserved pay increase, title, peace of mind! YES!! You deserve it, mama!

Also, you are too silly with the chin-up excitement. HAHAH! Gotta love it. <3!

awwww, yay!!!
Happy for YOU!!!

Congrats on standing up and winning! 13% is no joke nowadays.

Great job on the raise. You must really be valued in your job. And that must make you feel really good.

Keep at it with the chins.
