i’m doing pull ups. i hesitate to type it out as it might curse myself–> i’ve done a few 1/4 quartered hearted attempts at getting pullups in my training history all led to stagnant results unsurprisingly. my best for chins are 4, best for pullups ever are 1.75 reps per set.

they exhaust me! not in a racing heart way but a sheer lack of muscular strength in my upper back or chest–> there’s just nothing there to do the job! i got a heavy lower half compared to my top.

so i’m trying them instead of chins because i want to to them more. moved my hand placement in a bit and it seems to help! i don’t wanna do bands or the asst machine, i just wanna do em. i got a pull up bar at home. ***I summon the Goddess of Pull ups Nadia to assist me!!

also why i kinda went rep attack on benching today. I’m trying to squeeze oranges with my upper back and i like reps so why the hell not. making it more about that then the wt that is never really going to go far for a bench max.

my main hatred for benching is the fact that i can’t get much wt on it!! if i look at it differently and not even try to max out then i can’t loose. change the game in my favor!

yeah i know its kinda childish to expect to be good at stuff without trying and blah blah, but i feel like i have! i have tried !

when i was 24 i could barely–and i mean dangerously, BARELY-- bench a bar! and i was about 170# then. not the same distribution wise but still! I feel like I’ve put my licks in. so fuck off max bench, we’re not doing that anymore!

Sometimes you have to walk away from something until the time is right to return. Your max bench may be this way. Building your lats via pullups (go get 'em, RAAWWWRRR!!) and focusing on your form can only help your bench in the long run.

Hallowed! thank you! My legs are very utilitarian-- usually covered in bruises, scars, veins, and lumps of adipose tissue – but they serve me well. I bet yours are already more then awesome!

today i did my faves overhead squats! it was a fantastic super snowy day to wake up to. Me and Nigel plowed around outside and it was great! I weighed him down in his backpack and made him work for it too.

Meee too! I finally got them last week after Beans told me to add incline BP and oh man whats the name of them… overhead cable press? The two cables from high position in and down to chest height… I’ll remember the right name shortly LOL. He thinks my tieins might bebe lagging… I kindahave think theyre… maybe nothe but takingI the advicehorrible anwway. Its coolthe to beme sore new places.

though… the first guy might possibly be doing walkouts?? that is kinda what i do with a heavier weight when i’m building up to a (lighter) PR. but still, if he were doing that he would have done a proper squat after i guess. the second guy… um… i can’t do that on a bosu ball. trying, though, my balance sucks.

Awesome. You’re going to do pullups. You want my secret. I wrote to Harry Selkow at elitefts from April of 2008 until October of 2010. He gave me a pullup assignment nearly every week–deload every 4th week. I trusted him. I believed I could do them. I trained consistently. I trained hard.

Very generally, his program requires you to do pullups 1x a week and some rowing 1x a week. If you can do 1 pullup. Work up to 10x1. Rest as much as you need between sets. Get the reps. Then work up to 10x2.

My first assignment with him was 5 sets of 2. Hardly impressive. But,that’s where I started.

In October of 2010 I did a single set of 23. I also had worked up to weighted pullups w/ 35lbs–3 sets of 3.

If you’re serious about the pullups, I highly recommend you write to harry. He’ll help you. Just do what he says. Tell him you’re a friend of mine. But he knows me as Laura, not Nadia.

Hallowed–>YES! it is very exciting…and kinda unnerving at the same time…i’ve been letting those lil guys ( my ecs) sleep for a long time :slight_smile: I give you props for doing cable stuff. I HATE CABLES. anything on the pulley system thing instantly looses my attention. I look at it and it makes me pissed off! I hate them ! …probably why my chesties are so lil and now STILL sore :smiley:

OH! Nadia! thank you! I will write him today! I also didn’t realize you started form scratch on those! wow! that makes your pull ups even more impressive! my god! I also was curious about the training frequency for those. In past when I’ve tried I was under the impression the more you do them them more you’ll end up being able to do, however I find I can’t do them for every day at all. they exhaust me that much!

but i’m on it! yesterday i only did 2 sets of 1.7ish. I’m going to write him and wait for a response. and in the mean time try once a week the 10 sets of 1.

yesterday I wrote to the dude at eltfts–Nadia’s pullup pro. I haven’t figured a good day to do them-- the 10 sets of one since they really do whipe me out! But yesterday after work in a strange fit of gusto I did 2 sets of 2! actually to make myself feel better it was 2.5 reps since i don’t really count the first one:)

I do however use a pretty narrow grip and I’m fine with that. I’ll get macho when I’m bettter and have more confidence and drive. for now my grip is the pull up way, palms facing forward and my hands a bit less then shoulder with. might be whimpy but i don’t give a shit! its a colossal feat for me!!

Nice pullups. I can only do one and I kinda cheat at the bottom. You definitely start from a dead hang position. Awesome stuff!
