Belts are actually good for pushing your belly out. They can act like a cue for something to push against. I wear a belt when I go heavy but can’t have it super tight because then I can’t get the air in my gut.
I love OH squats, push presses and whatnot but I start getting nervous when it’s heavier about dumping the bar. I was thinking of investing in a couple of 10lb olympic plates just to act as bumpers if I have to bail.
I will have to definitely try squats with a belt. I didn’t today because i totally forgot the belt at home and was not expecting to do some squats but i had the fever for the flavor.
thanks kimba! I’m grinding my teeth the entire way…fucking bench.
today

snapper!!! i am curious about the squatting with a belt. I will have to give it a shot, since i have such a lovely one from such a lovely friend to use :)! I think though i might get a bit ofa shock, i tend to bellow out my belly on squats, fill it up with air or tensing or something i feel like my girth gets bigger on my abs especially.–i fear i might confuse myself :{ I will give it a shot though!

To be perfectly honest, I’ve had minimal success the few times I’ve tried squatting with a belt for the exact reason you mention: confusion. It’s like it throws off my whole form.

They’ll bend! Get 45 bumpers ;)
Thanks. That’s good advice. I tried to make bumpers out of car donuts but couldn’t get two the same size. One of my FB friends made a set and they are really kick ass.

That’s also a good idea. A few years back I wrote a series of articles on home made equipment but never covered bumpers. A good use for car tires that normally go to waste!
Hey kimba! my cals are usually between 1800-2000 give or take, my weekend days its slightly higher where i eat A LOT of fruit. i eat A LOT of fibrous veg that i don’t count towards my daily totals…as in heads/multiple pounds of caulifloweer/broccoli a day. so if i counted those it’d be higher, but i don’t.
i’ve noticed since i’ve dropped down to four days a week working out, i’ve seemed to have better workouts. fine with me!
its come to my attention after watching that badass British chick on youtube, that i don’t exactly cling and jerk overhead press. what i do is cling from the floor and push press up basically–i have no had the squat mixed in. so i want to make that clear!
115x3-4 total of 21, 95x10,x8,x5 sets of 5
one legged squats were a balancing disaster today. i had to do lots of sets of lower reps vs regular reps. just off today.
then i decided to try the Olympic clean jerk way–with the squat mixed in. i messed around a bit. did a total of about 17 in various sets of 1-4 reps with wts of 90- 121#. the 24hour by my house has bumper-esque plates! they are in kgs though and i got confused and only figured out the conversion now to pounds.
then i tried my new best friend-- the Olympic clean and jerks with a overhead squat at the end. I tried those with 99# did five singles. I am sorta in love

i’m pretty sure the whole point of the squat is just to shorten the range of motion the barbell has to go through and therefore allow one to use a heavier weight. so the fact you don’t squat low to catch it kinda makes it MORE impressive. and shows that if you got proper olympic form dialed in you’d have an out of this world clean/jerk.

oooh! i like that theory :)!!
Not a theory. It’s correct. If pulling heavy weight from the floor, you bring it to about waist high and then drop under it lightning-fast. Then you squat the whole package up. I used to love these, so I can relate Brute.
Now. Did you mention bumper plates at a 24 in town?? Where?
