Brute's Book

Hi Brute, glad your little guy is on the mend. During the pet food contamination my cat got seriously sick because of the food. Worse thing was I was paying premium price for vet quality food. Same shit in it for 20$ a 2lbs bag. Since then I have been cooking her food (once a week is all the time involved) and she has turned from a lethargic newtered house cat into a playful bag of energy and mischeif. We had chalked up the lethargy to age (over 5) and the operation. She was also 11 lbs which is pretty chubby. Since then she slimmed down to 9lbs and has been looking and feeling great since. Go with your guts - no one knows your pet better than you.
cheers

that sounds about right! Vets are expensive business! Its always good to question stuff, or at least make them explain it to you. My clinic is a teaching hospital, so we get some pretty cool cases…and sad ones too…

what’s the worst is when someone really can’t afford treatment…its always an issue, and its always when no one is expecting it financially that some horrible crap happens to their lil babies. There’s no way i could afford a dog if i didn’t get a 75% discount vet bills! [/quote]
Oh yeah…! Vet bills are a BITCH! That’s why insurance, silly as it may sound for a pet, is a great idea.
I learned the hard wasy when I got the little one. Because she had been to at the shelter, she came home with a bunch of issues. Then there were the mushroom incident…thank goodness I had read up on hydrogen peroxide. Saved me a another trip.

Sindie, at least kids talk and they can tell you what hurts. With pets, the angst is x10…

that’s awesome!! not about the bad food, but that your kitty’s feeling better! trip out, that’s way cool :)–

skye: i know!!! shelter animals are always a blast. you just never know what is going to happen, but then again you still never know wherever you get them. Yeah! peroxide is pretty badass! great at getting out blood stains too.

oh no! Kimba! what’s wrong with your kitty?? I hope he’s getting some help :frowning:

I am so glad your pup is OK! Poor little monkey… So scary for both of you.

I have two 16 yo kitties with inflammatory bowel disease. $$ pour out of my wallet into the hands of vets. But they have been loyal family members for all of those years, and thus deserve the best care I can afford.

wow! 16! that’s awesome, shows you take care of them well

i’m contemplating joining a local powerlifting gym here in Denver. Going to check it out on my weekend and see how it goes --makes me excited but also apprehensive. I’m a bit of a loner when working out–and well, most aspect of my universe.

I’ve never have had a spotter on anything really or anyone telling me how to do it right, but i’m getting to a point i think i’m going no where on my own… and so word. I’m also a tad competitive  so maybe being around people who are far better then me will give me so oomph. SO i’m hopefully this place will be cool.

Off to squat land i go…

I would highly reccomend giving it a try. After years of playing all sorts of sports I find the powerlifting comunity to be the most helpful over all. It is great to be around people that share the same passion you do.
Plus the best way to get strong is to lift with people that are stronger than you
Have a great lift

Jim

squats from yesterday
225x11, 225x10,225x9x2 sets, 230x8x 2sets,235x8,225x8x 3sets, 255x2, 265, 275, 285

You and your damn 200s, Sindie…
Way to go on make the rest of us look like slackers!

Seriously, kick ass squats!
I squat precariously through you…ok, that sounded so wrong on so many levels.

Brute, did I already tell you you’re my hero? That is some serious squatting, for real!

Tell us how the powerlifting gym goes - sounds cool.

Skye shakes head freaking hilarious.

Sindie’s squats might make some of you look like slackers, but then some of us are left looking like scrawny ass bitches. awesome work girl! very inspiring.

i agree with your thoughts on being around people that are far better than you to give you some oomph. to be honest, i was feeling a bit like a baby today, thinking about how much work i have ahead of me to get some respectable lifts. was actually kind of disheartening…

but alas, i read your post. and that reminded me that is the same reason i’m here. wouldn’t make me ‘feel’ any better if i was competing with the average ultra weak sauce GP at my gym now, would it? so i’d rather suffer a little ego bruising here, learn and strive for improvement. um, sorry i high-jacked here.

just wanted to give you props. good luck with the PL gym. glad your pup is good! (and kimba’s kittys, skye’s pup and Nlmain’s gato too)

Oh please let us know how the powerlifting gym turns out! I’ll be waiting, and even holding my breath… periodically.

And how’s the pup doing? still on the mend?

And: FUCK YEAH!! for your squats!! (video of that too, plz!)

I have to wonder, why all of the self bashing that goes on here? not just this log, but all of the “oh, i dont have respectable numbers,” “oh, i make you look small,” shit like that.

who the fuck do you women think you are? You’re working hard, you’re learning everything you can, and you love it. Why talk down about yourselves? Not saying everyone needs to grow the ego that I have, but realize that you’re putting in more effort than the majority of the population already, and be proud of what you can accomplish! Day by day, each tiny, and even the huge, steps… be grateful that you have the time, ability, and motivation to do it.

It’s not like you’re goddamned quadriplegics that weight 400 lbs.

be fucking grateful for what you have, and for what you can accomplish.

Hey I would like to hear about your PL gym experience. I’m in the Denver area and I train alone. I’ve been curious about getting together with a good gym too. Which one is it?

Agreed. Tell me all about your PL gym experience.
And while I’m sure self-deprecation is good for all of us, I love your squats and I want to be you when I grow up.

Holy Squats! wow wow wow!!!

And x2 about what the cbear is saying…its true!

Glad your doggy is ok !

cbear is 100% correct you ladies have no reason to put yourselves down at all:

most of you have no coaching

no spotter

work out at a shitty gym

have slim to none lifting experience

this country has a horrible physical education program (horrible for men extra horrible for women)

if you did play a sport you only played the sport you did very little ggp other than run and shitty push ups and crunches

you are still learning how to do the basic lifts (i learn something new everyday so don’t feel bad)

but you still show up and bust your ass

I have been lifting for 20 years

i have lifted competed and been coached by some of the bet in the world.

ever time i lift i get coaching ( and yes I get corrected and yes I forget to squaeeze the bar) and have a spotter

i film everything and review it and see how i can improve.

even with all of the about ^^^^^^^^

still:

I have days where i look like i have never lifted at all.

at least once a year i have to go back and reteach myself the deadlift. And do exercises that help me get my hips to fire

twice a year i go up and see my good friend Jim Wendler and he helps me with my form and my coaching and yells at me.

That’s why I try and help out as much as I can. I admire you ladies and how hard you work …

Great job

Jim

It is a battle between you the bar and gravity and time. You might as well smile and enjoy it, if you don’t life is too short find another hobby  !!!

hmm i swear i posted about ur poor doggy but i guess it got lost in the interwebz. how crazy that whole situation is. sorry to hear it was so dramatic… but glad he’s ok.

damn women ur squats blow mah mind!

Its called Rocky Mountain Powerlifitng Club, its in aurora off Abiline & Mississippi, I’m fixing to head there soon to check it out

thanks for the thoughts of my dog! he’s doing much better now…thank god!

thanks for the wonderful compliments :)!! You ladies ALL, and i mean all of you have mad skills! —i’ve seen your logs

deads
205x11,205x10x 2 sets, 215x9,225x8x 3sets 205x8x3 sets
Good mornings 135x9x 4sets
Alternating reverse lunge 100x12 x3 sets …cardio

today’s stuff. I decided to try the Skinny Bastard program for my upper body stuff, which I really hate. Its like pulling teeth for me to train upper body stuff, doing the repetition day and the max effort day. I might keep doing my GVT style lower body training cuz… just…well for now because i like it.

i hate upper body stuff…HATE HATE HATE but i do feel better after i do it…though sometimes it takes away my will to live :stuck_out_tongue:

benching 85x15x 2 sets,85x13, 85x12
Lat pull down 80x12,90x12,100x10x2 sets super setted with delt flies 5x12,10x8 ,8x12x 2 sets
Db military press 22.5# x12, 25#x12 x2 sets, 27x12 super setted with 50# x8x 4 sets db shrugs
Push press 95x5 x3 sets.

i still have am tinkering with #'s for these things, i kept kinda going around to see which felt like the right weight to go for. I gotta train them more so i have a better idea.

Sindie, good for you training upper body today. Training the stuff you hate is just so hard. For me, that is abs. Yuck! I actually love training upper body stuff because gaining actual shoulders was the most amazing part of lifting for me.

P.S. Deads. Awesome.

you should PM pushmepullme…that club sounds awfully familiar! She’s a PL’er AND lives in Colarado…unless its Canada, India or Greece…I can never keep up with her, LOL!!
