Brute's Book

hey thanks for stopping by soldog! i think it’d be cool to hand deliver it to Dan too.and thanks!!

MIM–it isthe waiting game :frowning: but i have gotten some thing out of preparing, so i’m thankful for that–wait and see… Thanks for stopping by too–i’m a belly aching baby :frowning:

hey kimba!–no…unfortunetly my health insurance is minimal and even if i had chiropracitc coverage, i don’t think i could afford it :frowning: I’m hoping its something i rest out-- if it gets awful then i’m going to go, but for now its limiting on my lifting more then my day to day activities–which i still can do fine, but with the occasional pain from handling things at work–lots of restraint and heaving around animals etc.

Hmm, well here’s my experience…it might put your mind at ease a little… I didn’t do ANY soft tissue work until I had been lifting for well over a year. Once I started foam rolling, my whole body felt like complete shit for weeks, especially my lower back and IT band area. Literally two weeks, I could not max anything and I could barely squat. Everything felt out of whack.

I don’t know if this is a common result or if there was even a scientific cause for it. Now, foam rolling isn’t as painful and doesn’t give me as much of a full body hangover, but if I have a really intense session of it I feel kind of groggy, headachey, and weak afterward…again, i don’t know if this has any basis in science. Now, I pay special attention to be ginger and gentle when I roll my lower back, though I still pummel the shit out of everything else. You could be feeling right as rain again in a few days, so let’s hope for that!! Just be careful down there (low back) and take your time to recover.

Okay here’s my .02. I was DL with the trainer several months ago and I started feeling lower back pain. I’ve never had pain there. He had me stop and we went into the warm up area. I laid on my back and he started pushing into my lower abdomen, left and right (ovary area). He was telling me about trigger points and I ended up Googling and found some good articles. When he pressed into my abs there were two CRAZY sore spots. Bad! He told me to do the same type of massage every night at bedtime. Within 24 hours the sore spot on the right was gone. Took 3 more days for the left. Sometimes pain in the body is referred pain from another area you would never guess. Maybe you can check this out? Also, have you checked the Injuries and Rehab forum on here? A lot of people post their issues and solutions. Good luck!!

The belt was supposed to save your back. Shit.

I’d send you to my ART guy if you could cough up the bucks. He’s fixed my back before. Twice, in fact.

Oh Brute, get better.

Aw Brute, i’m sorry. Maybe you’re body is just going through a moment. The rest and new bed will certainly help, so that’s definitely on your side.

Feel better mama!

rest. your back is worth more than a meet. there will be other lifts, you’ve only got 1 back.

thanks everyone !! :frowning: I am going to rest…as much as i feel like i want to try I dunno–i’ll know when i’m better :frowning:

owlie i think you may be onto something with the overzealous rolling, i don’t know. whatever i did makes me mad! so the cardio will continue–blah, and i guess this is an opportunity to do upper body work, push ups, pull ups that i never do. …mmpfh.

oh well! its summer and i’m healthy, just banged up a bit! …and i haven’t done upper body work in forever…maybe i can pull something off. i need to work on my abs too, build a better Brute!

Ab work definitely! Do you do any hip/leg flexibility work? You might look through this thread: Forums - T Nation - The World's Trusted Community for Elite Fitness
for ideas (not to suggest you’re an old-fart like me but there are a ton of good ideas in there).

thanks!! i will check it out! i’m all for old fart stuff! anything that can help, I’m game

ABSOLUTELY!!

I’m just apathetic enough to NOT look for the studies, so you can take or leave my word for what it is… free.

tight muscles stay tight and toxins build up there. my massage therapist always recommends a liter of water after a massage, even sending people home with a free bottle of h2o. when those toxins are released, if theyre not flushed properly, or if your body isnt able to handle them, you will feel like shit until everything is under control.

this is where i recommend doing what you can to manipulate your body’s pH into the positive as much as you can. moar green veggies, a tsp of baking soda in a few oz of water before bed, and water with lime during the day, along with moar animal fat and fish oil.

and sleep.

hey thanks Cbear! I’m going to hope you and owlie are right! Thanks for the info–geez–there is so much to learn about what seems like sucha straight forward sport/training. WORD!!!

But what I love about powerlifting is that it’s anything but straightforward. All the different training protocols, variables that can be manipulated (sets, reps, tempo, rest periods), accessory work, etc. etc.

hey know what are fun? Dips!! Today my back pooped and said NO to deadlifts, so I did a buncha fun upper bod stuff including push ups, dumbbell overhead press and chins. I sometimes forget how fun that stuff can be, especially the high rep sweaty sets. I feel so legit doing them like a whole sweaty training montage thing going on… Weirdly, nothing makes me sweat like a high rep set of abs? I don’t know if this is natural…haha I will definitely be following your recovery. Make the best of this time brute!..take this time to focus on some imbalances/areas you have been neglecting/stuff you just plain have fun training! You’re gonna bounce right back.

my god snapper, you’re quite right. and i’m glad i have lots of help from your ladies and assorted dudes…so much to learn and try.

hey thanks owlie!

i have quite a bit to choose from imbalance wise. right now i’m staring at my skeletal chest to start with–and comparatively puny arms. my upper body and lower are dramatically uneven, but i kinda prefer it that way aesthetically if i’m honest :{ …now my abs definitely need some tinkering.

now WHOA dips! I’ve never been able to do one–ever. way bottom heavy!! but there are many things i can fix!! :stuck_out_tongue:

workout wise i just did cardio, non weighted back extensions, and planks yesterday. i want to get better at those bastards. High fly goal for me is in the works.

Its cool that you are focusing on what you CAN do and not what you can’t at the moment…

Good for you!!

Planks are hard little bitches. Right now for abz I’m working on Turkish get ups and russian sit ups. Killer.

I’d forgotten about turkish get ups. I’m going to have to try them again. I get bored of abs. What are russian sit ups?

This, except I can barely manage to do them without a weight. With a weight, my legs come up off the floor:

^wow, I’m gonna try that today! thanks

Wow! Lots of great info going on in here. Thanks Brute

Those russian situps look hard! I want to try them too. That guy has great form btw :stuck_out_tongue:
