Brute: you need to keep doing the stuff your not so good at too, at least once in a while. Maybe if you picked up a bench program and gave it a run? just my 2 cents.
hey mom in md! well…i started lifting a while ago at least five years. i was pretty much self trained… i had big numbers but it wasn’t quite right. it wasn’t until january-ish of this year that i finally stopped and had to relearn everything the right way. i will post some vids of my old form compared to now…kinda sucks trying to tell your body how to do things allllll over again–and i still struggle with the old ways coming back
But i’m lucky enough i never got injured after all that.

over head squats 105x8,110x7, 115x3, 105x8, 105x8
benching badly 115x5 x 3 sets, 125 x3 x3 sets and an awful 133

Hmm, maybe we can diagnose this benching aversion. What exactly is it about benching that you hate? Do you enjoy other varieties of pressing? When you think about it, bench pressing is pretty silly and less functional then, oh say, overhead press or push press. NO! sorry, sorry, supposed to be turning you on to bench. Bench press rocks! The only lift you get to lay down and perform, what could be better than that??
i think that’s my issue with benching. i like doing big things

you rocked those deads - as Kimba said we can’t be good at everything. Start with the bench so your nice and fresh and then hit the deads as reward.
That squat. It’s really deep, and I love how you fight for it. And why’d ya stop on the deads? Looked like you could have kept going all day. You really own those two lifts.

That is the most amazing squat. Okay, now I have to ask for advice – how did you get your numbers up there? (unless you came out of the womb squatting 270.) What were you doing years ago to get to that point?
hey alisa! years of squats. squatting incorrectly, but still lots of squats–as in everyday for a while. i was crazy and used to train squat every workout, then after that i’d do more. it wasn’t until January of 2009 that i actually did separate days for separate body parts…as in training upper body instead of squats all the time ![]()
my old max doing it the way i used to was 365. i have to show you a link to the vid of my last big one doing it the bad way, which was 340. you can tell its not right! not deep at all and just strange.

Honestly, Brute, your bench is NOT that bad. 133 is solid. If you just kept working at it, it would improve really quickly, I’m sure! Why don’t you try taking a vid of your bench? If you’re having any form issues, we could try to help you identify them.
Those squat and deadlift vids above are older, right? Your pulls are insane, especially that you got so many with that little quarter calf-raise at the end of every rep. ![]()

Well, quite honestly, I think you can bench a lot more given the right coaching, Brute. You’re so very strong in your other two lifts. If I were you, I’d set up a time to meet with Dan and have him help you one on one.
Holy shit that’s a deep squat. If I went that low I’d roll over backwards and end up with my legs waggling like an upturned beetle. Good job.

I can also see why you might get frustrated with bench seeing as to how your squat and DL are so strong. I can only say, keep at it. Like they say, if you hate it, you should be training it.
