you are missing my point. box squats are great. but to do them “just because” is pointless. for training to be progressive, everything has to have a purpose. sadly, that’s why most people never make any progress. they go in and lift but they don’t have a purpose. they don’t know why they are doing what they are doing. my first question for anyone is “why??”.

Dumb question, what is squat ATG. I have been trying to figure this out for awhile but I cant seem to.

atg means “ass to grass”,i.e. squatting down as much as possible

WTF? That’s all it means. And here I’ve been letting my front yard get really long to make it easy to squat my ass down to it. And I really feel like a retard for dragging my weights out onto the front lawn on squat day.

Fuck it, I’m going home to cut my lawn!
I heart you RL. Can you come cut my grass too?

I think people’s perception of ATG varies also. I had someone look at one of my squat videos and call them ATG. To me, they are merely below parallel.

Seriously though. I’m at the beach tomorrow. You can do the lawn then. The mower’s next to the rack. Thanks bud

Well since you asked so nicely…

My advice is to sit back slowly until you touch and then pop up.
That is certainly squatting to the box; but is not ‘box squatting’.

This may sound a bit odd, but how I learned after doing a ass touch and then bouncing back up was to squat back as if your laying ok here comes the odd part. as if you were laying your balls on the box then while staying tight and relaxing your hips push your knees out and hips foward come up. Sounded strange but after I took the box away after a year of doing this it made the a below parallel come easy.

I want to start doing Box Squats, but my gym does not have boxes, just benches.
I did them today fpr the first time with a bench, but it just lets me squat down to slightly above parallel.
Should I quit themor not, since I won’t be able to squat down all the way.

Ever thought of squatting standing on two 45’s?

That would take some effort coming out of the rack and getting on the 45’s unless you don’t have to walk the weight out.
