Boilerman Wants It All

You might even make some pretty great gains! Sometimes just providing a new stimulus is enough

You read my log so you know this is mostly what I do. I would definitely give it a try at some point, you’ve done a bunch of structured training at this point, if you do your own thing it’s not like you’re going to completely forget the principles that got you to where you are now. It may not be entirely optimal but wtf is? Obviously there isn’t any rush to jump into this style (or lack thereof) but lifting how you want may give you a little spark before heading off to vacation.

6 weeks is enough time for Super Squats too. I would say volume on Super Squats is nowhere near BtM but the stupid simple linear progression is the arse kicker. Still need to eat. I dropped some weight last week and missed a couple of sessions and getting back on track just about wrecked me. Right before that I was feeling like a million bucks though. When I started I didn’t really think it was feasible to add the weight like they say to…but it was working out somehow. I realize it’s not magic probably just a learning curve, but that weight adds up quick. Also the book is like 16 bucks on Amazon and a good quick read. Leg pumps were awesome too.

Yeah it actually seems like my body responds pretty well to changes, but whether it’s a mentality thing as far as being excited about a new program or my body is primed and ready I’m not sure. It makes sense though, thanks for the input!

True man. I just second guess myself as to what I actually know. I still consider myself to be pretty novice with lifting. I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, I just copy people way stronger than me haha. I’d feel comfortable writing out a few workouts I guess and posting them for people to check out though and make corrections to.

Awesome dude, I plan on buying it either tonight or tomorrow. It’ll make for a good road trip read. I kind of poked around online and checked it out quickly, and it sounds intense as hell. I’ve been hoping to not concentrate on my squat as much, but it seems like that’s the way to get strong as hell so it’s what I gotta do haha.

Thanks everyone for throwing some input in here. There’s a bit to think about. I don’t want to overthink it though, it’s only 6 weeks and in the grand scheme of things, really not important but I’d definitely like to continue progressing. I felt like I was in a pretty good groove for a while

You’ve been killing it. Whatever you get into next I’m sure you’ll knock it out no sweat.

Might be the last deepwater workout so I made sure to try and die on it. Lungs are on fire. Legs are cramping and I’m light headed.

This. And it may turn you on to an exercise or two that you want to include in your next program. Something you wouldn’t otherwise do much of.

Dude. I bought and read SS and am terrified at the thought of dealing with that progression. START at your 10RM, then add 10lb every session (or every week?) Sounds… insane!!!

Which obviously is why it works for those ballsy enough to try. Because our mind limits our bodies.

Purchased the Brian alsruhe Mass builder and the super squats paperback last night. SS should be here before I leave and Brian normally takes a few hours to ship out programs so I should have some decent reading to do over the next few days

5lbs a session for 15lbs a week.

So that would mean, assuming I start with something around 265-275, bringing a 20 rep set from 265 to 355 In 6 weeks?

I haven’t gotten the book yet so I don’t know all of the inner workings behind it, but that seems absolutely insane. I had a rough time with 345x5 a couple weeks ago.

Edit: not saying I don’t believe it’s possible or anything. Obviously this book and program have been around for a while, and there is a reason people run it… but it just sounds so crazy.

I’ve got and read the ebook, I may be mis remembering this, but some of the examples he quotes are putting on 30lbs over the 6 weeks so calorie intake must have been pretty high.

There are no innerworkings. You are over thinking it. Basically the book says lots of people squat 300s using this program. They describe some other ways to squat like using a cambered bar etc, but there really is no magic beyond just doing it. If I remember right, he mentions belt squats too. Anyway there really isn’t much to it besides the breaths between squats. Just don’t start off too nuts. If you feel you have started too low add 10lbs instead of 5 your next session but remember that shit compounds quickly. To sum it up…once you start you just do it. Seems like there is no way…but you somehow survive. Just keep the recovery up.

Edit: I’m typically a low bar guy, but I’ve had to move the bar up the back a bit doing this. Just because the weight tends to slide down my back cause you are under load so long. I have an awesome bar too with great knurlings.

Squats are pretty magical in that there always seems to be 1 more rep in you if you rest long enough. You’ve most likely experienced this with Deep Water.

That makes complete sense. Can’t imagine it would work any other way other than stuffing face

Also makes complete sense. Just finding a way to get it done.

Definitely. Anything to get the work done.

Having done a a 20 rep style programme (I’ll hasten to add it was not super squats) you find a way.
Its hard. And I’ve never known pain like it. And th fear of the next work out drove me to tears. But the gains from this where amazing. I’m so glad I ran it.

Ya man I remember I first stumbled across your log and saw you were hitting 3 plates for 20 haha.

It is becoming more and more enticing to run super squats…

Hit a quick little workout last night to get some blood into my shoulders. They’re still feeling a bit off and I’m starting to wonder if it’s my sleep position in addition to the shape/size of my delts changing.

Start with 25 BPA, 8 NG chins

4 rounds of
10 NG chins
14 empty DB side raise
10 BPA

End with 25 BPA, 8 NG chins
