Boilerman Wants It All

Holy hell yes you have. That’s a serious jump.

Just read this comment whilst thinking about what to have for lunch…

I blame you (bacon and egg sarnie).

I’ve been kind of floating the idea to other people here to run deepwater… Maybe stealing the press progression would be beneficial to you after you finish up your current run?

Every training log on this site needs more bacon. I don’t see enough of it!

Maybe. I’m not 100% what’s coming after this run, but I have 6 weeks or so to figure it out.
This press progression was inspired by DW though:
10x10 with the bar
Add weight every week until you fail
Keep hammering week after week until you get all 10x10 at that weight
Add weight, repeat
After around 10 weeks I dropped to 10x8, same strategy, now its been 16 weeks and I’m going to 10x6 this Friday.

DW is more about keeping the weight and dropping the rest, right? Which does sound like a great angle of attack.

I REALLY want this right now…

Yup, start with 4 mins rest and eventually get down to 2 mins but he has you start with strict and switch to push, and then back again. Intermediate he has you add weight and cut out a set.

Seems like your progression is working though so I wouldn’t change it much, if at all. Restricting rest times may help once you’ve gotten close to your current max.

That’s what has been happening on my bench days. If j hit the 3x10 with 4 mins rest, I’ll keep the weight but cut out a minute if rest. Once I can hit 3x10 with 2 mins rest I’ll add 5lbs and start again with 4 mins rest. I’m closer to max right now on all 3 bench lifts so I have been kind of stalled out for the past few weeks though. Hoping by adding food back in will drive my energy reserves up.

It would be considered ironic on you, wouldn’t it, as you’re not a fat slob.

Another little screw up on my planning for the final push of advanced. Turns out I only have ONE week left of advanced before I leave for the wedding, so a week less than I had hoped for. This next weeks lifts in the book are-

DW power cleans

Non DW strict press

Non DW power cleans

Bench day

Not sure I want to be “finishing” the program on power cleans when I feel like I have unfinished business with both squats and deadlifts.

I am torn between a few options…

1). Do the week as planned, be done with deepwater for the time being and plan better next time to be able to finish all 3.

2). Replace DW power clean day with either a DW squat or DL day… likely a deadlift day due to still having crazy leg doms from squats last Friday. Be done with the program, and plan better.

3). Do the week as planned, take my week off and come back to finish the remainder of the program when I return home.

I am leaning towards either option 2 or 3, but am very unsure.

FWIW I would do option 3. You wont be weaker, and indeed should feel refreshed, after a week away; and it will give you the chance to express that strength when you return. Just my 0.02.
