Boilerman Wants It All

I’m planning on one and then going right back to another couple leaders, but if I do really well I may do two anchors. Kind of just playing it by feel.

Hey @boilerman did you get nervous on that top set for squats?

Anything over 300 for me is hella intimidating.
Idk why.

Yup normally I feel the same way. I just keep telling myself that I’ve done it before and it’s not a big deal… It’s normal to me now, all that kind of stuff. There is def a mental barrier that I have to break through on it though.

Awesome food and hitting some dead PRs. Ending the year right brother. Good luck with the Anchor.

Thanks bro, appreciate it. I was looking through my 531 book last night and svr might be calling my name pretty soon.

I’m liking it so far. It changes up enough week to week just to keep you uncomfortable and then you jump into the anchor which looks much worse. Should be fun. If I can just get the shoulder to cooperate my pressing was starting to move.

SVR II is solid. Definitely my favorite “default” 5/3/1 program.

@zeptrey @T3hPwnisher it honestly looks a bit like pervertor in that the supplemental stuff changes weekly, I definitely like that aspect of pervertor and it appeals to me on the SVR template as well.

And I hear you about the anchor. I plugged my numbers in a few days ago for the one coming up and I’m shitting my pants in both nervousness and excitement.

This is how the anchors are supposed to be, especially when you’re doing as well with the leader as you are. Looking forward to the PR’s. You planning any joker sets or are you just sticking with the PR sets?

Definitely going for jokers on both squat and deadlift. I may try to hit one of each on week 1 just to prep myself for the heavier weight and then try to go all out on week 3 and shoot for 2. PR sets may take a backseat on week 3 and I’ll just try to hit them for 3-5, leaving some left in the tank.

I may shoot for 1 joker each week on incline press, but I am having doubts about ohp judging by how 125 felt a week ago. Maybe after a little downtime this week I’ll feel a bit more confident in trying.

But… Goal #1 at the end of the day is a 405 deadlift for at least one, and if I can manage it, 420 for a single.

Edit: I also just realized if I do TMx1 for this deadlift deload, it’ll be a PR which I’m not sure I should do?

Yes you should still do your TM x 1 for your deload. The fact that a PR is a deload is just a sign of the progress you’ve made. But you gotta own it - know you’ll smoke it before you even walk to the bar.

130 was much more difficult than it should have been. Not enough speed out of the bottom and it stalled out. Gotta do more direct tricep work. Next leader cycle I’ll add in some assistance tricep stuff.

Hey man, are you resting the bar on your chest/felt shelf at the bottom, or is most/all the weight in your hands? @T3hPwnisher and @whang pointed out to me that resting the bar on your shelf at the bottom adds stability and conserves energy, and I’m 100% sure they’re right.

Nah after I clean the weight up it’s above my shoulders, and I drop it down until it hits my clavicle/top of my chest and push out of the bottom right after it.touches. I may have to widen my grip a bit in order for the bar to rest on my shoulders due to poor wrist and shoulder mobility… (I’ve broken both wrists and bones that connect thumb to wrist so I baby them as much as I can… my wrists get aggravated very easily)

I’ll def give it a shot after this anchor cycle though, as I’ll likely not be adding to my TM again, maybe even drop it back a cycle and work back up.

If you’re gonna try making the switch I would re-test your TM from the shelf rather than just step back 1 or 2 cycles. A wider grip will help you get down lower as well - I had to go about 2-3" wider to get there. My delts grew a lot more when I did that too, which was cool.

Didn’t know you’ve been doing seated presses all along!

Cool, will do after the anchor cycle. Thanks man!

@Bagsy yeah unfortunately ceiling height is a factor. I’d be driving the weight up through drywall if I wasn’t sitting. I’m hoping in the next few months to get my stuff set up in the garage where I can do standing presses. IDK if seated is easier than standing? I try not to use any leg drive, and I don’t flex glutes or anything other than for stability.

I guess I use so little weight I could bring my stuff to the garage every press day and just clean the weight from the floor…
