I have been loving the constant progress of DC. It’s been either weight or reps every lifting day so far, which is great. I feel as though I’ve been slowly working back towards my previous baseline strength which is promising. If I can be mid/hi 190’s and squat/bench/DL/press what I did at mid 210’s I’d be a happy man. I’m not entirely sure where my squat/DL are going to plateau but I’m hoping to get into the 400’s before that happens. I’m pushing every single set as close to failure as I can, and every day I feel like I can get myself closer and closer to failure than the day before.
I’ve been feeling pretty beat up as of late. Generally foggy and sore even after ~10 days off of lifting. My boy has been sick essentially since the beginning of February, and it’s been more or less a rotation week to week of my wife and I getting whatever it is that he has. Food has been decent to pretty damn good, sleep has been improved since early winter. I just constantly feel a consistent and general aching at all times. Might just be the whole getting older thing, haha.
The plan is to run this program into the effing dirt and milk every last ounce of progress I can out of it, but at some point I’d really like to get into a John Meadows program, as that’s something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time.
It’s what to be expected, I guess. The work I do is notorious for chewing people up and spitting them out. All doc appts/x-rays indicate everything is good, so I’m just chalking it up to “this is the way it is”.
I’m doing the things necessary to not end up like the 50+ year old guys I work with, though. They’re basically part timers due to how much time off they take for their back and knees.
Are you in a better place at this point, physically?
I am now. The best I can describe it was like having a flu, but after every workout. It wasn’t regular DOMS. I told my doc, he tested my for Valley Fever, West Nile, Lymes, etc. all clear. I tried different workouts, less volume, Super Slow, more volume less resistance, ice baths, saunas, ibuprofen, it finally faded away. I have been good to go for about 6-7 years now (COVID aside).
I appreciate the candid reply- I feel as though I am in a somewhat similar situation. My body has been rebelling, but I’m not quite sure to what. I feel like I’ve been so far under 100% for such a long time it’s just become my normal state. It’s like I’ve completely forgotten what it feels like to feel good, haha.
That is why we are here! Are there any meds you take? And it did not matter what resistance I used. Free weights, Nautilus, my Soloflex, even an old Bullworker that worked the best just doing isometrics with it. I asked about meds because I was on a statin. The doc took me off, but I was hurting for months after. But I wonder?
I take essentially zero medication, have never been prone to any chronic issue and can count on one hand the times I’ve felt the need to take any OTC stuff other than NyQuil while I’m extremely sick and my allergy meds while in season.
Had a full metabolic panel and hormone panel done early/mid '25, had x-rays done on my knees, shoulders and elbows. All checked out nearly perfect.
I’m not ruling out diet and inflammation being an issue, but I honestly just keep circling back to possibility of my lifestyle being the source, and until that changes it is what it is.
Good for you for not needing BP or statins, and whatever else “they” try to unload on us. I hope what ever you have causing your muscle fatigue/pain, etc. runs its course. Take Care!
It was a busy week and I’m now in charge of 3 guys at work including one pre-apprentice, which is taking some getting used to. In addition to that, I have two large side-jobs coming up after spring shutdown that I have been planning for during my down time.
Hoping for another 2-3 lifting days this week if I don’t get any additional side work.
