Yeah it was not easy. We had a revolving door of family all day and I was trying out a new charcoal setup. I set up the grill out on the patio so I could read the temps from inside as I walked by (I made a lot of trips to the “bathroom”) but it wasn’t enough for a consistent temp.
The first brisket I did was pretty good, so I may just stick with that charcoal setup and wrapping in paper a bit earlier. Live and learn!
Something I started doing was rendering some of the trimmings to make rendered beef fat. It is super easy and works well to rehydrate the brisket if you put it in the paper before you wrap or put it on top if you have to reheat it.
That 285x13 is probably the best set I’ve had in a while. Feeling good, despite a lack of good sleep the past couple weeks. Little fella is rolling around in his crib now and doing his crunches (trying to sit/stand up on his own) already, so keeping him on his back has been breaking the night up regularly.
Posted in the Transformation thread this morning!
Weighed in at 194.8 this morning. My plan is to get back to and surpass my pre-baby numbers and start to gain some weight back. I reached a peak of 227 during last year’s transformation, and quickly lost about 20lbs post-birth (I did not give birth, to those wondering).
Going to run 531 boring but big beefcake, building the monolith, potentially a cycle of boring but strong, and the 6 week 531 + rest pause challenge after I finish my anchor of SVRII.
Got a grand total of 3.5 hours of sleep last night, as well as being out on service calls until 11pm yesterday. This was kind of the last thing I wanted to do during mini-me’s nap, but I had the time. Hopefully will be able to squeeze in dealifts within the next day or two. On-call ends tomorrow at 6am… hoping for a quiet night!
Opted to not blow my brains out on the AMRAP set, and I’m glad I didn’t or I wouldn’t have been able to get 20 reps on the widowmaker. Estimated max is up in the high 400’s, but we all know how that works out. I’m just happy with how I’ve been performing/progressing, especially considering the weight loss.
Busy weekend and week so far. Finally getting on track with the program and getting my conditioning in due to feeling like I can/should. Sleep is still closely resembles hot garbage, but that has become normal at this point!
Will upload a picture of dinner tonight when it comes out of the crock pot…
Conditioning
AMRAP in 5 mins
25 KB swing/5 goblet squat

All good. I do believe I am now eating enough to support my activity throughout the week. Weight is coming back up a bit finally. I’ve added 1-2 protein shakes in per day, and a little extra meat at lunch/dinner.
Thanks man, it was tough being set back a bit after the baby but it is all coming back and then some. Taking a step back for a while might’ve been just what I needed.
I’m coming to the realization that I was overthinking just about everything lifting related prior to this summer. I enjoyed thinking about programs, challenges, food etc. Since time has been stripped down to the bare minimum, I don’t think about much of that anymore. I have laid out my plan for the next 6-7 months, and unless something crazy happens, that’s what I’m going to do.
I know what I’ll be eating. Every meal is meat cooked by me, some vegetables, some small form of carb (tortilla here and there, but typically a potato), and some fruit at lunch time. To gain weight I’ve been eating more meat and having a protein shake or two with milk.
I find myself just walking back to the lifting room, busting ass on both the main and assistance work, and then being done. I don’t think about it much. I am, however, very excited to start digging into BBBB and BtM.
