Did you wait until your baseball/football skills were something you were proud of before you played your first game?
Powerlifting is no different. The meet is the game: go have fun!

To be completely honest, I didn’t give a shit about the games, haha. Sports were forced on me by my parents… they wanted me to try new things instead of just playing guitar all day.
I totally understand what you’re getting at, though. I know my lifts don’t really matter to anyone but me. If I wait to be satisfied with my lifts I’ll never do a meet, haha.
Holy shit, “modified!” I haven’t heard that classification in awhile.
Yep. So much to learn by ding a meet and you will meet some great people and no doubt take away a heap of motivation. I also say Do the comp no matter what you think your strength levels are.
You calling me old?
Yeah, it’s been a possibility for a while now. I might just go for it at some point soon…
Getting the new program on Saturday, so until then I’ll just fill my time with random shit. Going to OHP and hit some conditioning after work today, and will probably DL, squat and bench again before the weekend is over. I’ll be on call, so that’s all tentative.
I weighed 204 last night after work, so I’m down almost 10lbs from ~a month ago. It’s been terrifyingly painless to drop the weight, so much so that I am wondering if I should shoot for the lower end of the diet break as I make my way into this new venture.
Tightened up a bit around the waist, abs are starting to poke through again and I’ve noticed my forearms and quads are becoming a bit more defined.

Also, anyone know what that T next to my name is about?
Edit: I think it’s because I signed up for regular shipments of surge and am going to give hotrox a shot!
I’m glad you said it cause I noticed that red T Nation logo right away!!
Yer if you hover the mouse over it , it says Loyal T Club so I assume you signed your life away… LOL
@jwlake06 @simo74 yes I was very confused for a few minutes… Haha

Just wanted to get some work in. It feels like I haven’t pressed in weeks and this was way too difficult. I’m excited to be back on a program. I’m not really a fan of just going in to throw iron around.
I’m getting to a point where I’m sick of restricted eating as well.
The diet break is working! You are going go tear that next training phase apart!
I’m ready to go, man. Starting the new program Monday and I think I’m done consciously restricting calories.
I’m glad that I did this though. It’s good to know I’m only a month or so away from being ok with how much fat I have. I think I’d be able to get stupid with it too and go too far like you said a couple weeks ago. Maybe when the time is right I’ll just get legitimately lean.
Looking forward to seeing what you plan next. It’s nice having you and pun doing some different t stuff so I can see how that goes. I’m torn between continuing more 5/3/1, or trying something conjugate, or body building stuff. I’m def going to do a mini cut.

Well, that was interesting. These new movements are going to take some getting used to. Bench felt way more difficult than it should’ve, but after essentially 3 weeks away from the weights that is to be expected. Really dug this upper body day and I’m excited to see the progress I make on the accessory shit. Those retraction rows were brutal.
I’ve been on call since Thursday night, and between Friday and yesterday I’ve worked almost 30 hours, so needless to say I’m fucking shot. Going grocery shopping later tonight and hopefully having a quiet rest of the weekend. Planning on hitting lower body 1 day tomorrow.
The dude that wrote the program for me kind of left conditioning work open ended and up to me as he hasn’t really ever programmed it before. I plan on doing a minimum of 1x a week, potentially ramping it up to 3-4 once I am back in a groove.
I really REALLY want to run a meadows program just out of sheer admiration. I haven’t found one that I could run at home though.
Maybe deepwater is calling your name???!
Damn I was hoping you wouldn’t say that lol. It’s possible since I’m already eating stupid amounts of eggs and beef but I’m really not sure at this point. Main thing is seeing how my hip feels during tomorrows 95% 5x5 squats.
If it makes your choice any easier, deepwater will be way less weight than the 5x5 on BTM… Just quadruple the amount of reps.
Haha true, when I was doing beefcake I was so happy to finish set 5 of 5x10, now just double that. I’m going to go back and look at it. I like the heavier weights right now because I’m getting stronger kinda so it would be cool to keep pushing it. I know in 5/3/1 Wendler says to go up 5 cycles and back 3. At the end of BTM, it will be 4 cycles going up, so DW would probably work well because the weights start daily light if I recall. Is that correct? Plus (I think I’m talking myself into this now) @T3hPwnisher laid this out already in “Big Deep Beef Mountain.” Fuck it I’m in.
Hell yes dude!!!
Jon wrote in the book to take 70 percent of your 10RM for the weights of deepwater sets. I found those weights to be way too light to get the desired effect. Each run through I was questioning whether or not I made the right decision in my weights… I had no idea if I could complete the workouts.
My first run of deepwater was a little wacky the first couple weeks. I used those weeks to adjust weights to dial in the suck to the appropriate amount. Once I found a weight that I was 90% sure I could complete, all the reps with, I used that. Weeks one and two of beginners and intermediate are the “easiest”, so keep in mind your rest times are going to be stripped back the following weeks or the weight will be increased, which increases the difficulty ALOT. Especially for some one like me who isn’t nearly as conditioned as @T3hPwnisher.
The second run through, I worked backwards from intermediates weight to calculate beginners. I had some milestones I wanted to hit on intermediate, which I unfortunately did not hit, but it was a fucking challenge and I still made great progress. In my opinion, overreaching to hit a goal on intermediate is the way to go. It buried me those last two weeks, but it was a huge mindset shift to know how hard I could push myself.
If you do end up going for it you’ll have a ton of people that have your back dude. It’s an eye opening program and I absolutely love seeing people run it!
I appreciate it my guy! Got a good crew on here for sure. The beauty of doing beefcake pre DW you have an idea of what a hard AF 10 rm set is. I’m questioning some weights right now on BTM. Especially this weeks 95% bench 5x5. Fingers crossed!! Food intake will be crucial.
I felt the same way, man. You’ve put in the work up to this point so you’ll crush it!
