Yeah, I shouldn’t have spoken too soon. I felt outstanding until about 4pm yesterday… then a steep nosedive.
And on Christmas Eve too /: hope it blows over soon! Impressive that you did BBB squats despite it all.
Thanks, it wasn’t too terrible today. The weight was light enough that it didn’t totally destroy me thankfully. I’m sure I’ll be good by tomorrow.

Head wasn’t in this today. I was supposed to have this week off but spent 3 hours on the phone yesterday and went in for 4 hours today, another 1.5 hrs on the phone and doing paperwork. Very frustrated and aggravated.
Press moved well. Wasn’t expecting such a huge jump on the curls but I flew through the first 100. Conditioning either later today or tomorrow.

Might hit some.dips later this afternoon, and a short sandbag conditioning session. Depends on how much I get done around the house. Also, planning on doing a weigh in tonight or tomorrow morning. I’m curious. I’ve been putting away food like crazy.
@T3hPwnisher I know you’ve said that you’re leaning more towards the bison lately, but I think I have found my favorite cut that piedmontese has sent. It’s the inside skirt steak. I was sent a few of them with the last order and I can’t get enough of it. There have been multiple nights this week I’ve put away the entire pound of meat before the rest of my dinner finishes cooking. I have two more defrosting in the refrigerator right now haha.
Squats moved well. Felt heavier than usual, especially for a 5’s week, but no real issues.

Feeling good, hunger has been sky high the past week which is awesome. I’m just cruising along this template. Looking forward to BtM in a couple weeks.
Weighed myself this morning, 199.5lb. Seems as though I haven’t been putting on too much weight, if any.
Not too sure what to do with this information. I’m feeling good and recovering well so I don’t see myself changing anything. I’ve been increasing frequency of meals (mostly little things in between main meals) and quantity on the big meals the past few weeks, and even added in some direct carb sources to try and get my calorie count up. It seems like my body is at a point where it just doesn’t want to put on any weight. Again, this isn’t really a problem I guess, but I’d like to start seeing some more physical/strength changes again.
I’m wondering if I’ve just been “gaining” for too long. I’ve been aiming to gain weight (minus a brief break during deepwater advanced) for over a year now. While I have been unsuccessful putting on weight, my body comp has improved quite a bit.
I guess I’m not sure if I should continue riding out the recomp until strength gains seem to plateau, or make a change and do a short mini cut and make the next gaining phase more aggressive. I’m about as lean as is typical for me the past 6 ish months, so maybe dropping weight down to 190lb and then slowly gaining back up to 200lb would reset my body to “want” to put on weight again.
So much rambling, but I’m just not sure what to do. No matter what, BBBB and BtM will be completed before any changes take place.
Keep in mind: my background is in POLITICAL science. So that said…
The human body is VERY adaptable. It likes homeostasis over change. So it’s ALWAYS trying to adapt to whatever change we present it.
One of the issues when we try to gain weight for long stretches of time is that the body keeps adapting as we go. First, we need 3k calories to gain. We eat that and it works…until it doesn’t. Now we need 3.5k. Cool…until it doesn’t. It’s an arms race. Eventually, the body WILL win, because we physically just can’t eat that much food.
This is why I am implementing diet breaks in my strategy. The goal is to make the body adapt the OTHER way. Because first, you’ll need to eat 3.5k to maintain. Then 3k. Etc. We’re resetting the metabolism SO that, when we decide to gain again, we don’t need as big a dose.
Justin Harris has talked about this, and it resonates with my own personal experience. The benefit to is, if you ever decide to honestly pursue losing weight, you don’t “suffer” at all. Your baseline is so high that your weight loss calories are most peoples’ gaining cals.
I know you’ve touched on this before in both your log and mine and it makes perfect sense. I think I’m going to do something similar after BtM while just slowly dropping back quantity of food and volume on the main lifts. I don’t see any other way to start to gain weight again other than lowering my BMR. I’m legitimately stuffing my face the majority of the day, I am still hungry and even adding in carbs for the past couple weeks.
It seems like I’m sort of spinning my wheels in regards to strength and physique at this point. I may be getting incrementally stronger, but until I build my base out, I can only reach so high.
To add on to the last post, a quick recap of the last year. Looked back to the training week one year ago and I weighed 210lbs, just hit a 385x1 DL PR, a 405x1 DL PR, hit a 350x1 squat PR and was on the cusp of running DW.
These past couple months I’ve PRed squats, bench rep PRs, press single and rep PRs and matched a DL PR, volume PRs all around, hitting awesome numbers of dips and pullups and overall just feeling unstoppable.
After losing 11-12lbs, significantly improving my body comp and getting a shitload stronger, I’d say 2021 was a successful lifting year. I know the winning formula. I just have to keep adherence at 100% and aim to beat my body into submission for the next year.

Week 5 down, one week to go on BBBB.
Wifey wasn’t feeling great the past few days and tested positive on Friday night. I thought I was in the clear, but I started feeling a sore throat and some congestion coming on this afternoon. She’s fine, says it feels like she has a cold and has been keeping busy. I knew getting cov would be inevitable (especially with how many people I come in contact with on a daily basis) and I see a few brain pokes in my future. Probably going to take it easy the next few days to play it safe.
Hope it’s mild, most of the tests aren’t deep nasal (brain pokes) anymore which is much much nicer.
Thank God, I hated those. I’ve been doing plenty of the rapid tests before seeing family and shit, but will likely need a PCR for work.
