Bodyweight Training Goals

Hey guys,

Here is some bodyweight goals I attempted after a 2 week intense training series. It includes skills like iron cross, front lever and planche. I hope it gives you some ideas for your own workouts.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

I’m kind of puzzled by the trouble you had with holding a front lever. Saw your muscle-up video and you obviously have significant strength in your lats and triceps yet why no carry over to the front lever? However, looks like you can do a few front pulls if you tried. That would be a step in the right direction.

Have you tried lowering yourself into the straddle planche from a handstand? If so, can you hold it longer that way?

You are strong man, and kudos to you for setting goals for yourself and striving to reach them.

But, do yourself and your joints a favor and slow down. The skills you are striving for should take several years to achieve due to the extreme stress that they can place on the connective tissues. Yes, the muscles might be capable of reaching the required strength to achieve them before that point, but the connective tissues heal and remodel at a significantly slower rate than the muscles, and thus require significantly more preparation time before they are ready.

Yes, I think it puzzles many when you take a step back and look at the other skills and then see front lever in there. I think my main reason for not yet having front lever is inconsistent practice and that I’m not yet drilling the right technique. I’ll have front lever by the end of the year (likely much sooner).

I’ve lowered from handstand to straddle only a few times. It is a relatively new skill so I aim to enter into the skill using the least amount of effort (like in the video).

I’m 5’10 (and a bit) and weigh about 82kg.

Thanks for the advice man. I’ve been training towards skills like iron cross, planche, OAC etc for about 3 - 4 years now and through that time (as well as watching/training with others around me) I have a solid understanding of the patience/discipline involved in achieving new skills/goals. My training partner and I had a rare window of 2 weeks free so we decided to up the intensity of our training and target the program towards specific goals. Obviously 2 weeks of training alone is not enough time to achieve new heights in training but it was fun to do and acted as a very solid motivator because we are so close to some of these skills.

Ah, that makes much more sense then. When I saw “2 week intensive training block” and those skills in the same post I assumed you were trying to achieve them with only a 2 week intensive training block. If it’s actually been several years of preparation, then that’s a different story.

Recently got a skill called ‘Pelican’. There are 4 stages and this is stage 2.

If you haven’t noticed I’m trying to get you guys interested in bodyweight training if you’re not already. The skills look impressive and there is a prerequisite for most anything you’re interested in learning so there is always something to learn.

Here is all 4 stages (not my video):

Thanks, keep posting! I’m going to add the stage 1 phase to my routine.

90-degree handstand push-ups; an advanced variation of the handstand push-up. Been aiming for 5 repetitions for a while now and finally got it!
