Bodyweight Bench x 29 Reps

got invited to a benchpress marathon where you bench your weight class for max reps (Ie, I am under 90kg, so I have to bench 90kg).

went to the gym to see what I could get and got 29 reps (I know I am not locking out but didnt realise till I saw the vid-will have to try again in a few days)

anyone ever competed before in such a comp?

here is my vid

Redirecting...

yes, didn’t do too bad for weighing in at 298lbs

had three chances to get as many reps as possible.

ended up with 38 reps.
20,10,8 about 30 seconds rest between each set.

im guessing omeone said something offensive about me doing half reps, then deleted it?

You’re strong no doubt but how did you “not realize you weren’t locking out”? You’re arms are almost at a 90 degree angle when you end the rep…

And yes our gym has a ongoing contest for bench (along with other lifts of course). There are actually 2 contests: 225lbs rep test and a bodyweight rep test.

Currently at 28 for BW (180)

I would love a comp like that. I weigh 148 lbs, and can do 225 for 16 reps after my main bench workout.

I feel as though the majority of your posts since you created an account here include your bodyweight and how much you bench.

That would make a great video, would love to see it. Can you upload a video of yourself getting on the scale at 148 pounds, then benching 225 for 16 reps?

Will try to get it done soon, but I don’t bench again until Saturday. I weigh between 148 and 150 every morning. I do a 225 max rep set after my 531 bench workout every Saturday. I have hit 16 reps twice most recently after my 1+ week last week of 315x2. I have hit at least 14 reps every week for the last two months. Feel free to be at the CU rec center in Boulder this Saturday around 4pm.

I wish, since I have a degenerative hip problem that doesn’t let me squat or dead lift heavy. My main hobby is rock climbing, and the est climbers have stick legs. Wish I did also. They aren’t huge but are proportional to my body.

Man I would love to be in CO, unfortunately it’s a long drive from NJ! 315 x2 at 150 is a great number, how did you work up to it?

Bench is something I have always been good at. Even in high school I did 285 at 144 at a meet in Alabama. But only sporadically lifetime as an adult. Every time I did, I was hitting 275 within 3-4 weeks. In summer of 2011 I started to lift consistently, but not really follow a plan, and I peaked at 315 for 1 rep and 295 for 2 in November 2012. No matter what I did, I couldn’t improve. Started wendler 531 late August 2013, and hit the 315 for 2 this past Saturday on my 1+ week.
