Complicated issue. Is it vanity to want to look good? nah. That’s natural human behavior.
In my case I have already found tyhe woman of my dreams so I am not trying to catch a mate. What I do, I do for ME to make me happy with myself. Maybe that is vanity. pfft.
On the other hand, there’s a vaguely related issue that I simply MUST remark upon. I can not understand and will never understand why people in the gym spend so much time staring at themselves.
About 50% of the time they are checking their form. No problem there.
But the rest of the time these dudes are just crowded in together up in front of the mirrors just staring. Staring hard. Looking really really hard at themselves, into their own eyes. Mostly it seems like it;s younger guys but I have seen a couple of older dudes do it too. Just eye balling. Sometimes they will get real close to the mirror and look. It’s like they never saw a mirror before.
Every time I see that shit, I wonder wtf they are doing. What the fuck are they looking at?? I admit I don’t understand it, but also it kind of gives me the creeps.
I got so sick of competing with those idiots for space that I just gave up DB benchpresses altogether.
Body Building is not vanity. It is health. It is ambition. It is struggle, achievement. It is determination. It is science. It is spirituality. I believe in God, and I believe that I am suppose to look like I have a higher power guiding and blessing me. I am suppose to stand out from the normal over-weight population. I am suppose to show them that there is a better way.

I agree with all of this except health. To be a great bodybuilder is not very healthy.

This is odd. What does DB benchpresses have to do with a bunch of douchebags hogging the mirror?

Can someone remind me why people take you seriously?
You’re an idiot. 'Nuff said. There seem to be about 3-5 of you running around the site leaping forward based on whatever I write that causes your panties to bunch up.
I personally think that’s pretty damn creepy since no one cares what you write and I sure as hell wouldn’t be following you around at all.
Carry on numb nuts.
Why am I and idiot? I’m not denying it, I’d just like to hear you’re reasoning. In my opinion, an idiot is someone that makes sweeping statements that homogenize an entire group of people (i.e. You as the idiot generalizing women in America and men across the world in relation to titty preference). And Irondwarf, I get his point, but he could’ve made it without being a jerkoff about it which seems to be especially hard for him. I think whats truly odd is that you (X) can say some stupid shit like you just did then have otherwise sensible people defending you because you’re the big cynical tells it like it is diva that they want to be friends with, lest they encounter your diva-rage.
For every douchebag sucking on the Professor’s nutsack there is another douchebag following him around to argue with him.

Fair enough, but are you calling me a douchebag? if so, why?
Just pointing out which side of the line you seem to be falling on. And trying to make you realize that both sides of that line consist of nothing but douchebags.

I called her a massive cock as she walked off lol.
What would you do?
I would not respond in such, but there is some vanity in it. But who cares? Anything overblown about your personal appearance is vain. But average training seems to me to be common sense.
Athletic competition is about being the best and you do what it takes in the rules.
And as for a woman commenting on vain, please. The irony in that is dumbfounding. Let’s see, coloring your hair, pushup bras, heels, make up etc. Some of this is common sense and just taking care of yourself, but it can go into vanity pretty quickly.

It works for both though.
Also, I doubt the response would have been the same if the OP was looking like some of the guys in the pics he showed her.
I personally would have a problem with a girl dating me making that comment because she would already know what my goals are…and shitting on them wouldn’t be glossed over.
True, while not the biggest guy, I’m 200 at 5’7". I have never met a woman who thinks I look to big. Of course, I’m not that big, but bigger than most. And they like it.

I think he means that, in some gyms, you get so many idiots standing looking in the mirrors in front of the db racks that it makes it difficult to get the dbs you want to use.

Because at my gym, like with a lot of gyms they position the benches that you need to do DB bench presses, single arm bent over rows etc over by the dumbells. And for some incomprensible reason that is the place the staring douches seem to want to hang out.
There’s limited space. There’s really nowhere I can drag a bench to, and even if I did it’s pain in the ass dragging heavy dumbells back across the free weight platform. So I am kind of stuck there.
Before I quit the DB press I got so fed with fuckers sticking their asses up in my face between sets that I ended up just working facing away from the mirror. But then one day it was crowded as hell as usual. There were fuckers all around me staring, and as I was completing my set I let the dumbells drop and I accidentally dropped a 95 pounder on one of their feet.
Then the guy starting acting like it was my fault lol
So I gave that shit up. At least until I canfind myself a real gym

Lol, thanks. I have my moments. Just so you dont know I am bullshitting you. I have 5 kids. One thing about special needs, “They will never break your heart like normal kids, they will always love you”.
My wife & I have had two children in our 40’s. For each I mentally prepared myself to have a Down’s child (or other chromosomal abnormality). Both were born healthy but the result for me is I feel a kinship with any parent of a Down’s child.
One blessing for your family is that your other 4 children will probably be able to love deeper than they ever would have because the love from a Down’s child is so pure. They will also never have any prejudice or be uncomfortable around people with disabilities. In these ways and many others Down’s children make the world a better place.

Exactly. I saw an ad for a push up bra that increases “breast size” by two cups on tv and that was the major selling point. That is fucking insane. My guess is, if guys were wearing jeans that made their dicks look 5 inches bigger, we would never hear the end of how stupid and “vain” that is.
For someone who partakes in things of that nature to call a guy out for building big muscles through sheer hard work is retarded.
Half the time women have no idea what they are attracted to, they’ll say they like one thing and respond to another

My wife was laughing at those bras. All they are is padding is what she told me. Now listen, I’m not opposed to some fancying up stuff by a woman, but calling a guy vain who has a hobby busting his ass and showing his weightlifting buddies is normal to me.
And I’m not a huge bodybuilding fan. And I think some of the behavior is silly. But there’s to far. Getting big and strong, cool. Greg Valentino weirdness, strange.
Funny part if woman spent the time on hair makeup, etc., or just a small % of that time on gym stuff, they would be a lot happier. It’s all about balance.

OK I see. I’ve go the douches who do the same at my gyms, but when they see someone dragging heavy dumbbells they’ll yield. DB benchpress is probably my favorite exercise so there’s no way I’d give it up.

Funny part to me is most women think the order of importance is hair & makeup 1st, gym 2nd, diet 3rd. Some women will stick cosmetic surgery right behind hair & makeup. The true order of importance for a woman’s health & beauty is the exact opposite. Diet 1st, gym 2nd (preferably strength training but really any physical activity - not necessarily[<–6 tries to spell correctly] ‘gym’), hair & makeup 3rd.
I saw a commercial last night for underwear that a girl can buy that makes her butt look bigger. It’s called “Booty Pop” I think. Most ridiculous shit ever… But only guys are vain.

Bodybuilding is a sport.
Posting a progress picture is equal to a sprinter posting a PB or progressively better 100m times.
Its a pride about what you have achieved not vanity.
A pro Bodybuilder posing in a mirror isn’t narcissism its the same as a sprinter doing plyometric work.
Now don’t get me wrong some BBers are vain (as are sprinters) but this doesn’t mean that vanity is a pre-requisite to being a bodybuilder.
In fact the reason that some if not most get into BBing is due to body dysmorphia.
Hey! Just because one chick says BBers are vain and some other chicks are vain doesn’t mean we all are, at least not to the level you guys are describing.
Perhaps it’s regional but most women I know don’t wear make-up or if they do it’s minimal, I know only one woman with implants at the moment and most dress pretty frumpy and wear sensible shoes. The only generalization I can make is they ALL paint their toes, even the lesbians, even if they’ve never worn make-up, shaved their legs or painted their fingernails. Which is a curiosity for sure.
