Hey! Just because one chick says BBers are vain and some other chicks are vain doesn’t mean we all are, at least not to the level you guys are describing.
Perhaps it’s regional but most women I know don’t wear make-up or if they do it’s minimal, I know only one woman with implants at the moment and most dress pretty frumpy and wear sensible shoes. The only generalization I can make is they ALL paint their toes, even the lesbians, even if they’ve never worn make-up, shaved their legs or painted their fingernails. Which is a curiosity for sure. Okay, firing for effect. Perhaps vain isn’t the appropriate word to describe some of us.
vain (vn)
adj. vain·er, vain·est
- Not yielding the desired outcome; fruitless: a vain attempt.
- Lacking substance or worth: vain talk.
- Excessively proud of one’s appearance or accomplishments; conceited.
- Archaic Foolish.
but I think this one has a lot to say about most bodybuilders…
ob·ses·sive (b-ssv, b-)
adj.
- Of, relating to, characteristic of, or causing an obsession: obsessive workouts.
- Excessive in degree or nature: an obsessive need to win.
perhaps this psychology definition as well…
Perfectionism, in psychology, is a belief that perfection can and should be attained. In its pathological form, perfectionism is a belief that work or output that is anything less than perfect is unacceptable. At such levels, this is considered an unhealthy belief, and psychologists typically refer to such individuals as maladaptive perfectionists.
I think that most people that bodybuild are quite humble and unconceited. The exacty opposite of vain. We do what we do in order to constantly try to improve ourselves and our bodies. What some people think is vain isn’t a grandiose display of narcissism, it’s an objective look at our own image and how we can improve upon weak points.

If I did a pushup every time the subject of diet, lifting, or my body crossed my mind on a daily basis I’d be too top-heavy to walk.
