Bodybuilding = Vanity?

Hey! Just because one chick says BBers are vain and some other chicks are vain doesn’t mean we all are, at least not to the level you guys are describing.

Perhaps it’s regional but most women I know don’t wear make-up or if they do it’s minimal, I know only one woman with implants at the moment and most dress pretty frumpy and wear sensible shoes. The only generalization I can make is they ALL paint their toes, even the lesbians, even if they’ve never worn make-up, shaved their legs or painted their fingernails. Which is a curiosity for sure.
Yeah maybe it is regional because I personally know a few women with fake tits (not strippers), most women wear makeup and on 2 separate occasions I was bamboozled by women with padded bras. I live about 10 miles outside of Manhattan in NJ.

My wife doesn’t paint any nails. She’s actually the most natural person I’ve ever met. No makeup whatsoever, wears simple clothes. Doesn’t wear shoes unless she has to.

Is she like a hobbit? Lurking round the streets wearing a dirty night dress with no shoes? lol

Okay, firing for effect. Perhaps vain isn’t the appropriate word to describe some of us.

vain (vn)
adj. vain·er, vain·est

 1. Not yielding the desired outcome; fruitless: a vain attempt.
 2. Lacking substance or worth: vain talk.
 3. Excessively proud of one’s appearance or accomplishments; conceited.
 4. Archaic Foolish.

but I think this one has a lot to say about most bodybuilders…

ob·ses·sive (b-ssv, b-)
adj.

 1. Of, relating to, characteristic of, or causing an obsession: obsessive workouts.
 2. Excessive in degree or nature: an obsessive need to win.

perhaps this psychology definition as well…

Perfectionism, in psychology, is a belief that perfection can and should be attained. In its pathological form, perfectionism is a belief that work or output that is anything less than perfect is unacceptable. At such levels, this is considered an unhealthy belief, and psychologists typically refer to such individuals as maladaptive perfectionists.

I think that most people that bodybuild are quite humble and unconceited. The exacty opposite of vain. We do what we do in order to constantly try to improve ourselves and our bodies. What some people think is vain isn’t a grandiose display of narcissism, it’s an objective look at our own image and how we can improve upon weak points.

And as for a woman commenting on vain, please. The irony in that is dumbfounding. Let’s see, coloring your hair, pushup bras, heels, make up etc.

Exactly. I saw an ad for a push up bra that increases “breast size” by two cups on tv and that was the major selling point. That is fucking insane. My guess is, if guys were wearing jeans that made their dicks look 5 inches bigger, we would never hear the end of how stupid and “vain” that is.

For someone who partakes in things of that nature to call a guy out for building big muscles through sheer hard work is retarded.
Damn, X, I’m going to start making jeans with a padded bulge. You KNOW douchers are going to be buying that. When I’m Rich, I’ll be sure to send some dough your way since it was kinda partly your idea.

In and around Dallas girls won’t so much as check the mail without their makeup done and dressed pretty well. I personally know several girls that will not leave the house for anything without looking touched up. It’s definitely a regional thing. Then again, a lot of guys around here are the same way.

If I did a pushup every time the subject of diet, lifting, or my body crossed my mind on a daily basis I’d be too top-heavy to walk.

Any time someone says people who lifts weights are vain, I simply find a hobby of theirs, and reveal the similarities…whether it be modding their car, running, gaming, sports, getting rich, etc etc. The vast majority of people’s passions are simply trying to take something to its limits and beyond for the hell of it, not for any REAL reason. Bodybuilding/strongman/powerlifting is no different. We like seeing how far we can push something…except instead of that something being a car, kite, or bank account, it’s our very bodies.

She’s pretty tall and not hairy at all. Her clothes are often filthy so you’re on track with that one.
