Bodybuilding Has Changed For Teens

On one level, it is a little scary simply because that is the only logical way all of this steroid hysteria can go. On the other, kids were just as stupid when I was 15 years old. Most of us were spending after school job money on Hott Stuff and that shit was completely worthless.

Kids are dumbasses. They always have been and they always will be.

I don’t think you should get a license to speak until you turn 16.

<— supplement free, lol

I think all beginners have to go through a growth phase, learning what works, what doesn’t, and by how much. Supplements for teens aren’t necessarily bad- if they can afford it, I think it’d be awesome to have a generation of athletes taking creatine, BCAA’s, Fish oil, ZMA, and beta-alanine so long as they training and eating proper. It’s when they don’t that they’re pissing away money and the world cries.

By that same token, I’ll admit that many beginners don’t give themselves enough of a baseline without supplements to really figure out how much extra the supps are giving them. They jump into a new program the same time they get their new box of creatine and their new diet and PRESTO! magnificent results, and it’s hard to identify which aspect was the cause for how much.

For the record, I’ve been guilty of just about every noob lifter mistake, especially with supplements (every time I look at my T-Nation level, I cringe a little bit). But I’ve learned. Am learning.

Well I’m 15 and it can be hard to get 6 quality meals in because of school. I’ve always liked to take some protein powder when I don’t have time to eat. Teenagers could always just drink lots of milk as well.

This is the worst excuse ever. As if it is easier for people who hold full time jobs.

the only thing i see harder for teens living at home is food choice, because i cant control what my parents buy for the most part. Other than that, i get ample calories and protein.

Well you could start a fitness club at your high school to help all the misinformed teens. I
just gave my club form to start a fitness club to the school board.

Yeah I teach high school, and a lot of my male students will say, “dude, did you use fat burners?” “Have you heard of Lipo 6??” blah blah…and everytime you say something like, “nah man just hit the gym, do some cardio, and eat clean and you’ll be fine…” they always respond with, “Yeah ok but what about (fill in the blank latest GNC supplement)???” Sad.

School is probably the easiest time it is to eat all day. Just get your parents to buy some real food if they don’t already. This includes: Meat, bread, fruit, vegetables, mixed nuts, that sort of thing. Hard boiled eggs are good too.

At the beginning of each day or the night before, make a buttload of sandwiches, gather some vegetables fruit and mixed nuts, and throw it all in a big bag. I used to also pack a big bottle of milk. Take that big bag to school. Carry it around in your hand like women carry their purse. While you’re sitting in class just eat the whole time.

If your teacher tells you you can’t eat, don’t just say “ok”. Tell them you have specific dietary needs for your chosen sport. Tell them that you must eat during the class. If you have to, lie to them saying you’re diabetic and this was your nutritionist’s recommendations! Make it your goal to finish the big bag of food before the end of the day. Be honest with yourself - make it a challenging amount of food.

And be really thankful that when you come home you’ve got dinner waiting for you courtesy of mom. Believe me, every day when I get home I wish there was someone making dinner for me. And I also really wish there was someone who would buy groceries for me to consume.

Make no mistake, with your metabolism in high school it can be nearly impossible to put on weight, but there are alot of factors in place that will help you in your quest. If you eat as much as you possibly can every day, as well as hitting the iron, you will look better than anyone in your high school in a year and a half. I did, and I wasted so much time learning that I needed to eat more. You’re lucky: you can learn from my experience instead of wasting time. Hope somebody benefits from my rant. But who am I kidding! Every kid i’ve known is too stubborn to learn lessons from their elders without screwing up themselves!

ok, this is the first article that was more than a page long that I spent the time to actually read all of it. I like all your points on supp abuse and anorexic wallets because of it. get a cheap job, pay for fresh fruits, veggies and meat of any kind you can cook up and eat. of course the usual carbs and such are needed too. but I honestly have never done anything but eaten healthily and heartily, for the past 3 years.

I started out freshmen year toothpick size, and now at the end of my junior year I’m 150, only 5 7 and am proud of myself strength wise. my bench max is 250, I do reps with 225 for squat and deadlift (they need improvemenmts) but I’m happy with myself for just that. I don’t powerlift, I’m just going for overall physique.

my routine is chest and light tricep on monday
legs and light bicep on tues
shoulders and heavy tricep on wed
back and heavy bicep on thurs
light legs, light chest and abs on fri
any suggestions on this routine for me? I"m open to anything routine wise but like my diet the way it is.

I know the thread just got bumped and it’s old news, but I really like this post.

Im 21 and the only supplements im currently taking are creatine and protein. I dont even think of them as supplements, I just view them as “steak in a glass”. If your a teen and you hit the weights hard do yourself a favor and consume lots of protein.

Coming to college was by far the best thing that has ever happened to my body lol. I discovered skim milk…and I’ve been having roughly 24 glasses of it a day and the pounds fucking pour on lol.

to the OP, drink skim milk and water like none other. As everyone else has said a good protein post workout powder is ideal. Preferably whey with plenty of carbs(no carbs=no grow). If you want an extra kick you can get some casein protein, releases amino acids for up to 7 hrs after ingestion. Have a casein shake right before bed and your body will stay fairly anabolic, instead of having to use your tissues for food for 8+ hours.

And also in regards to creatine. Take it warm with a sugar, like hot chocolate, tea, or coffee. If you take it cold, the body is only able to use a very small amount of it. Taking it hot and with a sugar maximizes its absorption and will give you the best results.

IMO I’d just stick with whey and casein protein. Good luck bro

i don’t know, the guy at gnc said cutler takes those exact same thing to get huge, and then he uses his gold card on the first of the month to get so shredded.[/quote]

That is fucking hilarious. I went in there a couple days ago to use the rest of a giftcard off. This fat lady workin there was tryin to sell me some bull shit that I knew was garbage. She tried tellin me about what she uses to get “good pumps”. Can’t blame people for trying though.

Jack Johnson the boxer remember him the giant ? What supps do you think he was taking ? I’ll give you a hint, none of them.
