Body Works Exhibit

There is currently an exhibit at the museum of natural science in Houston, entitled “Body Works 3”. (It is also leaving at the end of the week.)

The exhibit displays actual people without their skin–using a pretty cool preservation method. Being able to see the muscles(and organs) in 3-d, as opposed to textbooks, is a trip and pretty insightful. A lot of people can’t take the reality of it, though.

Yes, I’ve been to this. It is interesting and eerie at the same time.

Are you a native Houstonian or just visiting?

I saw it( Body Works 2) here in Toronto in feb as a bday present. It was great, I felt right at home, haha. Definately worth checking out.

Sigh I wish i knew about this when it was in the area here… I wanted to go so badly.

Hey Guys,

It’s actually Body Worlds and is playing in Boston and St. Paul right now as well. I checked it out last week with Carl Valle, Tony Gentilcore, and Cassandra Forsythe. In a word: AWESOME. Everyone ought to see this if it’s in their neck of the woods.

I actually reviewed it in my newsletter last week:

I saw Body Worlds 2 in Denver. Definately some interesting stuff. It makes one realize how important a good diet and exercise is.

There’s also one over by me at the Science Museum in Minneapolis that I want to go to. It looks awesome.

I took my wife and kids to it last year in Chicago. Since my wife was pregnant at the time, my daughter (6) was really interested in seeing the fetal specimens as well as the pregnant woman. She didn’t want to get too close to the plastinates, but my son (3) thought they were cool.

My favorite was the basketball player. He was the most well developed muscularly. It gives you an appreciation for the construction of the human body that you can’t get from pictures and words. I highly recommend it.

If you take children to this exhibit, be aware that the plastinates are displayed in their full glory. Or as my friend’s girlfriend put it, “There’s a lot of wang in there.”

So be prepared to explain certain things to them.

I think there was a thread on this before… I saw this in Philadelphia and it was really cool.

I saw it in Toronto. It’s really cool if you’re into that kind of thing. I really liked the display of the nerves.

I am actually fixing to leave and head to this exhibit today. It sounds very similar. The Exercise Science Department as well as Biology students from my University have the option to go today to Atlanta to view the Exhibition. I am really looking forward to it and wondering what to expect.

As usual, Eric is right. It is Body Worlds.

Saw it in Denver also…bought the video about it to show it to the kids I work with…The lung thing will hopefully stop at least one of them from smoking.
