Ok so I got into the gym today at Golds cause I wanted to try jumping. My hips been feeling a bit better so I wanted to try it out… I was pleasantly surprised by the results for sure.
I filmed a lot of stuff today and specifically wore a headband again for you MiM (and you too Ink. You’ll be sporting one next) Check out the vid
Started with stretching, then shot around for 10-15 minutes. Filmed my first jump and was able to grab the rim easily.
I did a few jumps and was grabbing rim with 1 and 2 hands (surprisingly)
Then get into some front squats:
135 x 12
185 x 6
226 x 6
275 x 3, 3 (<–video of this one)
315 x 1 (PR. I want to be able to rep 315 for 8 or so… feel like I could get there pretty quickly if this hip thing keeps going the right direction)
Tried quite a few exercises after this that all hurt: lunges, bulgarian split squats, GHR’s suuuuucky
so I forced myself to get on the leg press. First time doing leg press since I’ve had this log lol… its been YEARS
worked up to:
7PPS x 8, 7 (<–video of this one)
Lying hamstring curls:
3 x 12
and that was all she wrote. At the end of the video is a shot of my delts… they were jacked after the front squats lol. Skin was peeling and it was super red and tender. LAME. Also there is a shot of my super awesome headband… it also highlights the supreme white trashyness of my patchy facial hair… I’m so embarrassed
He’s back! Good to see you jumping again. Looks like you picked up right where you left off. Strong front squats too. Those helped my jumping better than anything else so if they keep going up, I bet your vert will too.
Kalle- Yeah I dont think I’ve really done leg press since highschool. I was only at 7pps and it was heavy. I see guys loggin like 1 million plates per side… I felt weak. I liked the really close stance, my quads are a little sore already today
Sam- hahaha I am back! I felt good on the jumps yesterday. I was doing some burpees last week and I thought to myself “Self, you’re jumping pretty high right now. I bet you havent really lost much.” I’m really hoping the FS’s will help my vert. Before, my squat stance was pretty wide (PL style) but with the front squats and I can go much closer and I feel it in my quads more. We’ll see.
Jams98- Thanks bud, I havent been doing front squats very long (consistently anyway) I’m just now getting back into squatting after my injury but I would say that I’ve been working them in here and there for the past couple months.

DoveofWar- Why thank you, His Beardlyness. hahaha I suck when doing the crossed grip so I just decided to suck up the uncomfortableness of the clean grip… now it doesnt hurt at all really.
Charlie- hey! another newcomer… this is awesome I’m glad you liked the headband… seems that the ladies love it and the guys are hating? lol The outdoor gym is part of Golds San Diego. They have a full indoor and a full outdoor gym (the outdoor stuff is the old equipment) I like hitting the weights out there. Its nice to be outside.

Ok so no shoulders today. I was feeling low on energy so I decided to do some conditioning work instead (I dont know why but that sounded logical to me at the time? haha)
5 rounds of:
100 jumps with the speed rope
50 jumps with my 1lb rope
10 burpees
as fast as possible: 8:58 fuuuuuuh! I was smoked. Did it outside to work on the tan as well so I was kinda double dippin. My chick is doing a girls night tonight so I’m flyin solo… what to do? What to do? hmmmm

Nikki- Yeah that conditioning wasnt very easy. I was dying lol… probably should have just done shoulders but oh well. Glad the video worked, thanks for the heads up I’m also glad that you appreciate the headband.
scj- how tall are you? Have you ever dunked before? (these are important questions if I’m going accept your challenge ha!)
So I got in the gym for shoulders today… man my shoulders suck.
Seated DB shoulder press:
12,10,8,7 (the weights arent even worth mentioning lol)
HS shoulder press:
worked up to 2pps + 25 x 8,7
Lean Away Cable Laterals:
3 x 10
DB Lat raise:
3 x 12
Meadows rear delt destroyer thing and then reverse pec deck to finish off the shoulders.
Conditioning:
45lb KB swings to overhead (felt it in my shoulder muscle a lot more going all the way overhead vs eye level)
5 rounds of:
10 swings to overhead w/ each arm
30 seconds rest
Btw, saw your post in blaze’s log about the front squats up on your throat…thats how theyre supposed to be lol which sucks.
EDIT: x2 on what tommygunz said man, I forgot about this. With your ass rolling up off the seat, that puts alot of pressure on your lower back. See if the seat back adjusts, if not, actively think of keeping your butt on the seat.
