Kalle- You were up in Santa Cruz? Were you doing another strongman comp? Dude we went to Gales every day! hahaha I was getting 3 chicken breasts, 2 twice baked potatoes and a egg&ham croissant sandwhich for breakfast every day lol. It was awesome

I live about 40 minutes from Santa Cruz, The gym I’ve been training strongman events on Saturdays at a gym is out in Santa Cruz. Yeah weather wasn’t the greatest this weekend but can’t beat Gales
MiM- The beach was awesome. Such a fun relaxing trip. Going back in a couple weeks actually I hope you’re right (about the academy more than the pounds lol)
Kalle- Oh sweet man. I am pretty sure that I didnt know that you lived up there. The weather wasnt too bad. Besides that one bout of rain it was good enough for me. I even got me a super touristy Santa Cruz sweatshirt hahahaha. I was THAT GUY walking around.
Ok so I went back to the gym with my fiance. I was putting her through her workout but I did a few things with her.
20 Minutes on the spin class bike
5 Min Warm up
10 Minutes Intervals (Holy crap my legs were tired after the first interval lulz)
5 minutes cool down
Then we did medicine wall balls and then medicine ball slams
20/20 then 45 seconds rest x2
It was a good little finisher to my day. Gonna hit the gym with my baby bro bright and early tomorrow. Should be fun!
HeavyTriple- thanks for checking my log man. That circuit is pretty good. You should check it out. I dont ever do any upright rows but I didnt have shoulder surgery about a year and a half ago. I tore my labrum when I was on my last deployment and had to have surgery to repair it. I still have some limitations with my overhead pressing (no barbell really) but besides that I’m good for almost everything else. Are you doing any rehab/prehab for your shoulders? Do you know what exactly is wrong with your shoulder? I might have some info that could help out. let me know whats up.

I might give it a try tomorrow. I have moderate impingement in my left shoulder, and the PT I talked to also thinks I tore my labrum in the fall. I’ve worked around it on bench variations, but like you I have limitations with overhead pressing. I do two face pull variations, lots of back work, and a rehab exercise called prone horizontal abductions…those are a life saver and are typically prescribed for general shoulder pain.

Sorry to hear that about your shoulder. Have you thought at all about having the surgery to repair the torn labrum? I had what they call a SLAP tear and had the surgery to fix it… SOOOO much better than before.
Does your PT have you doing any YTWL’s? I was doing those along with face pulls, floor/wall slides and reverse shrugs… those really helped a ton. Check out some videos on youtube if you arent familiar with those exercises.
Nikki- hahaha yeah I gotta get a little more preparation in before the big day
So this morning I hit the gym with my younger brother and his buddy who’s his workout partner. Spent a lot of time going over basic stuff, form, ramping, rep ranges ect…
Highlights
BB Bench:
275 x 6
295 x 3
DB Incline:
105’s x 8
Skull crushers/close grip press:
100 x 3 x 10
Mixed in there were a few dips, tricep pressdowns and flys.
A good little workout. It was fun to lift with my bro again. Having a workout partner was nice. Wish we lived closer

Haha don’t feel too bad for me, I’ve smashed bench PRs in recent weeks. Yea they told me that the recovery from surgery and from rehab is pretty much the same; both have about a 50/50 shot of working, so I’ll avoid it unless it’s absolutely necessary. Looks like what I do is the Y portion of the YTML, so I think I’ll try the rest as well.
Did the DTC today…holy shitballs. That was a great complex. Props on doing 185 with that, I think I would have thrown up or died.
Ct- They’re both super newbies that are just getting back into training after a long layoff. Probably gonna get them on that complex after a little while though.
HeavyTriple- Did you try the TWL’s? What about the wall slides or floor slides? That complex is rough huh?
MAsteve- Thanks man. You should grab out that vest. its a great little boost to your cardio.
Nikki- hahaha no pic, sorry. Yeah my brother is legal. He’s 26 married and has a kid lol.

I didn’t do the YTWLs, but I’ve been doing wall slides for several months. I’ve tried floor slides, but didn’t keep them for whatever reason. That complex was insane…I’m not used to breathing that hard and then still having to do one more leg of the complex.
Did the DTC yesterday mate, was meant to be a rest day but I got frustrated with revision.
can’t get on to the counts log so I’m thanking you both here, it’s really good fun.
Question are you pulling from the hang? Or the floor? I was pulling from about the knee but I felt I wasn’t really getting the snatch grip up high enough.
Ct - I accept my banishment to ice hell and will claw my way back one DTC at a time
Heavy - Yeah the complex is a good one. I like it I’m gonna have to add it back in today. You didnt like the floor slides? I love em. They really helped my shoulder ROM after my surgery. When i first started i would lay back and when my elbow was touching the ground my hand/wrist was at least 8 inches from the ground! hahaha so sorry
MAsteve - Glad you liked the DTC. I do all of my pulling from the hang. I dip the bar down to just above knee level and then initiate my pull. Try to generate more leg drive and a good “hip pop” (kinda like a KB swing) and get the weight up.
MiM - Thanks for the bump… dont really have anything “training” related to say right now but I’ll be in the gym later so I’ll post that then
Ok so in a non training related way… here is my current update.
Friday I hit the gym with my fiance. I’ve been focusing on a little bit more endurance as of late so that I’ll be better prepared for the PAT on thursday. So friday i did some treadmill work and then worked on abs and my pulling strength. I did 10 x 10 wide grip pull ups along with sets of 100 jumps in between. It was good.
Saturday we had our last regular season football game. it was a pretty bad game lol… our team played pretty crappily and was rusty from the week off last week. We already were going to be the number 3 seed in the playoffs no matter what so it didnt really matter at all. We have two playoff games next weekend (assuming we win the first) and then the championship game will be the next week… so we’ll see
After the game we headed out to Palm Springs. Got out there Saturday afternoon to hang with my fiances bro (his birthday) and his girlfriend. We spent some time at the pool, went out for dinner and drinks sat night and then layed by the pool all day sunday.
It was a ton of fun! it as awesome to get a much needed tan lol. It was also nice being, by far, the most in shape person at the pool thats always nice. There were a TON of cougars out and i was getting checked out by tons of ladies (my fiance says) pretty fun trip if I do say so myself. ahahahaha.
also saw The Hangover 2 on friday night. I laughed a lot and thought it was good. Same EXACT movie as the first one just in Thailand instead of Vegas… but really funny.
Ok so I’ll post my workout from later when I get done. Thanks for checking out my log peeps.

I imagine the fiancee humors you on just about everything. HAH! So awesome.

I think you’re right… She probably just makes that stuff up to boost my confidence a little bit (not that it needs boosting haha)
yeah the PAT is thursday. Gonna hit the gym hard today, and tomorrow then take Wednesday off to rest up a bit. I’m probably making more out of this PAT then need be but I really want to do well.
Honestly I will be pretty disappointed if I dont have the fastest time lol… Should be 200+ people running the PAT so thats a lofty goal but if I’m top 3 I wont be too bummed I guess?

Nah not lofty mate, always strive to be the best, even better if you have it in you to be up there like you clearly do. Bet not one of them is as prepared as you are mind!
