Blown Quad, Surgery and Rehab

On Jan 3 I had to stand on one leg to hit the reracking pedal on the Precor hybrid hack/squat machine (I was facing out). Well as is typical of a 47 year old male with suddenly declining test the quad of my right posted leg gave out. I hard the tear, felt it and very, fortunately, I went straight down with my butt resting on my heel. I tore the VMO and RF totally off the femur and another quad were partially torn. I had surgery little over a week later which wasn’t ideal for tendon length and now my leg looks misshapen skinning from 1/3 up the knee. The surgery was a success and I was even driving, with the seat back totally down, after two weeks.

Yesterday at the six-month mark I went back to that gym and my weight on that machine is exactly half of what it was for about half the reps. Regardless I dodged a bullet and am satisfied with my recovery. I added some photos showing the progress. There is a three-part video of a pro bodybuilder on youtube who went through the same thing and like him, I had 20m of sutures used to reattach the tendons to the patella.
