So, you’ve done several different training styles, different diets etc. What do you feel has worked the best for you so far? What’s been your favorite?

Honestly… thats a good question, I was thinking about that today… Everything has worked, they’ve all gotten me to where I am today but I think they vary greatly.
Original Plan:
4 week repeating program consisting of upper/lower body split compound exercises
Original Diet:
Protein, protein, protein, protein.
Success:
Yea sure, it worked well I guess, I got stronger and I lost some weight, but it got boring, real boring… I stayed on this as it was all I knew for 6 months or something?
Diet – Meh… I say it was protein, but it really wasn’t buckled down… and I was consuming protein shakes more often than not
10x3 FFL
I dont even recall how well this worked, it didn’t stick out in my mind.
V-Diet
Works, if you stick to it… You really need to be a cube warrior or a stay at home parent to get this done without performing stunts for a month to stay on track…
I also feel that people who are overweight(myself included) jump on this for that “RAPID” overnight infomercial results thing… when in reality its for someone who is a little pudgy and has plenty of muscle to work with, but wants to tone up (almost like water manipulation before a show, its not for the 390 lbs 5’5" guy)
10/10 Transformation
I thought about this program a lot today, it really was successful in my mind, it was the only program I’ve done (Other than the v-diet) that had a nutrition and workout routine supplied in one convienent package.
I didn’t follow the diet 100%, not saying I ate like shit, just saying I didn’t use all the supplements and I wasn’t feeding my cows grass from the most lucious pastures, but other than that I followed what Waterbury said.
I realized that although I saw a huge difference in my body looks I maintained if not gained some strength and endurance… the problem is, now after I am done, it seems to have all but faded… was the program long term success or just a glimmer of hope?
Now:
Training is crossfit, and minor cardio/strength tossed in there… My diet is the Zone at 16 blocks/day…
So at this time my macro breakdown is:
144g Carbs
112g Protein
24g Fat
The zone doesn’t take into account nutrients hidden in some items so these numbers may be higher than what is listed, but those are the MINIMUMS.
Is that a diet that looks like its going to grow muscles and get you pumping the iron like some vein poppin’ gorilla? Hell no, is that what I want? not at this point
CF and The Zone are leaning me out, They are working together to increase my muscular endurance greatly, and at the same time increase my ability to work with what I have, ie body weight exercises… I still have fat to burn, and I still have goals to achieve, but at this time I don’t feel that having a chub coat for 1/2 the year is something I ever want to be known for.
When I said earlier they are doing something… here is what I meant:
Today:
“Mr. Joshua”
Five Rounds for Time:
Run 400m
15 Glute-Hame situps (I subbed in 25 situps on the roman chair)
185 lb Deadlift 15 reps
23:01PR – Last attempt: 32:00 with 15 incline situps/round
I got a PR on this of just about 9 mins, and I did 10 additional (more difficult) movements in each round… what does this say, that the next time I perform this routine I should be even faster…
I think this is a great indicator of my progress as the first time I did this routine was at the start of my CF journey.
Where I’m headed:
Crossfit is great, it changes every day, it’s a fast workout, and no matter what you’ve done, you feel like you’ve done work.
Will I be Crossfitting for life?
Probably not, I see myself using the knowledge I’ve gained over the past year and some to create different routines and exercises over the course of my life, and if my goals change, so will my routines and diet to reflect those goals.
I am contemplating doing another 3 months of the 10/10 Transformation… it really was that good… and who can say no to a diet that tells you to eat chocolate every night?
I’ve been rambling, I hope this has made at least some sense.
