Nice meet results. I’m amazed at the narrow stance on squats and deads even at your height, but it seems to be working for you.
Thanks dude, I honestly dont think my stance is THAT close, its a little more than shoulder width. But I will be working on widening it
Thanks again.
Let me make a comment here. Your feet are quite close, yes, but you are “opening” the hip a lot, when doing this I would do a wider stance.
I would argue, though, that ALL the strong raw squatters I know squat close stance. Why? Because you have no suit, you have nothing to sit back into. What does this mean? It means that the bottom part of the lift is muck more problematic, and this part is easier with a close stance. Something like this. eduardo guadamud 310 x 2 squad - YouTube
Jonatan- How far would you reccomend I take the feet out? I would think only a few more inches…
B-Rock- Has widening your stance made it harder for you to hit depth? Or arise any problems you didnt have with a closer stance?
And no, I dont plan on competing till around this time next year. This meet was the closest I could find (Albany NY), Which is 2 hours from where I live. I had to stay over night, and I ended up having to pay alot of money.
If there is a closer meet, say one in CT I will probably compete. But so far theres nothing on PL watch.
congrats on the job! are you widening your stance at all or still going with the old one?
bench is lookin real good right now, i wouldnt be surprised if you hit 300 soon

Thanks man.
I didnt try messing with it today, only because I had to mix squat and bench, and had limited time. Next squat session ill bring a camera and really put the time in.
Im hopeing to hit 300 by the years end. But by the way ive seen myself progress in bench, that might be asking to much.
Winter track start in November anyways… are you planning on throwing this year?
When I changed width I was already standing at shoulder width. So now I’m about 2-3" on each side out. My reasoning for this was that my knees were “shaky” (not sure if you’ve ever had that) and this made my legs a bit more stable. No problems hitting depth with a minor change like that. But I am pretty flexible down there, wink haha
I found some meets that I’m looking into in the near future.
Nov 28th in Peabody, MA (just south of NH)
Dec 5th in Boyertown, PA (sorta far)
Dec 12th in Johnston, RI
Feb 28th in Manchester, NH (just north of MA, ha!)
I found them all on PLwatch yesterday. I’ll probably do either the RI or NH one b/c I’m having a bit of a meet/‘lift-off’ with my buddies around halloween.
Keep up the good work! I get to bench today! woot woot!

Till your knees are directly on top of your feet. Depens on wether you’re going for gear or not? If you are, I think you should widen, if not, take in the knees.

Nope, never had a problem with shakyness. But I think I have a flexibitliy issue, so that might make it hard. But w/e, I think im doing good with my stance right now, so im not worried.
That will be awesome if you can do a meet! Good luck w/ that and benching, lol.

Chiming in late here, but awesome job at the meet. I went 7/9 at my first meet too, did it the same way (3/3, 2/3, 2/3)…You have a lot to be proud of and a lot to build on.
Thanks dude, do you plan on competing soon? With your new weight class im sure you would kick ass.
No plans on the horizon, but it would be fun to have a go at 198. It will probably happen at some point.

BigNate- Those goals seem attainable if not easy. Good luck with that.
Ramo- I will be glad to see you compete.
the bench and squat definitely, with those numbers and now that im front squatting regulary im hoping the fifty will come with some technique work, i shouldnt be as burnt out as i was last year as i didnt do football the season before like last year
I had a very fucked up day today. I woke up late, so I couldnt have any breakfast. I went on a “fieldtrip” to go to a park, which turned into a 4-mile uphill hike. Got back to school and it was time to lift.
