Black Plate Specials...

Where is the cheapest place to buy 45lb Olympic plates?

I remember they used to be around $25 at walmart and now they’re $44 at walmart. Big Five is $63 per plate and I can’t seem to find another good deal on a 300# set (got mine for $99 at Dick’s)

So where is the cheapest place for the most weight you’ve found lately?

Check Craigslist in your area. I see deals all the time and I haven’t met anyone selling stuff off there that wouldn’t take less than their asking price.

x2

Ferrous metal, as a commodity, has forced the price up on all iron and steel products. It’s dropped a lot lately, but I wouldn’t expect to see consumer commodity products drop.

me2 on craigslist, but also check out garage sales.

Apparently nobody in this area has EVER trained. But I’ll keep an eye out on craigslist. thanks for the advice…

Prices vary location to location. There are 3 around me and the worst is $1/lb (all new) and the best price has some used for .33/lb.

You can also sometimes find crazy things at these places – I’ve found a safety squat bar for $40 bucks and a shitty reverse hyper for $50.

Nearest one is 200 miles away in Albuquerque but I’ve got to go there next weekend for a class so I’ll stop in…

Thanks.

Yeah, Play it Again Sports is completely hit or miss around me. When I put my gym together they had about a half dozen 5lb plates and an EZ Curl bar, so I went elsewhere. 2 months later they had a dozen 45’s and a couple of Oly Bars for about half what you’d pay for new. Just missed that deal.

It might be worth calling them on occasion to see if they have anything in stock and if they could hold it for you.

I just found a guy in ABQ that is selling plates at 50cents a pound… Now I’ve gotta pray for some cash. I use the weights too, but I’m using them for my youth outreach and we’ve been hurting with only one 300lb set. That makes for long workouts if more than two people are involved…
