All I Want for X-mas is Olympic Bar

All I need is an Olympic bar, but Dick’s sporting good store won’t sell it without the 300lbs of weights I don’t need. All I want is a bar and that’s it. My last resort would be to go online.

That should be your first resort.

Lower budget: Jesup Gym has some nice, affordable bars.

Higher budget: Ivanko OBX-20KG

The last thing you want to do is spend money on a crappy sporting goods store bar that’ll bend over time.

Craigslist!

elitefts.com and well check your paper and used sporting goods stores.

Google “Texas Power Bar” and you’ll find a few vendors who sell this wonderful bar. It’s not the best bar for Olympic lifting, but it’s the best all-around bar for heavy lifting.

If you want a good bar for Olympic lifting, look for Eleiko.

And if you want a decent bar for basic lifting that’s cheap, then search online (new york barbell) for one. Although, it may be cheaper to buy a complete 300lb set.

York had a recall on their bars not too long ago as they were snapping during use. I recommend Ivanko personally.

Thing is guys if he’s looking at Dick bar anmd just wants the bar and wont pay the $99 for the bar and 300lbs weight really doubt he’s looking to get a REAL bar and spend the money needed. LOL

I say hell yes a texas Power bar of eliko but just have a feeling the OP islooking CHEAP an old used Cap bar. Man up and buy the package or go garage saleing and hope.

Having 300 more pounds, will give you motivation to lift it with the weight you already have !

Thanks for all the replies, I’ll mull over my decision.

you’ll shoot your eye out.

I bought a 300lb Olympic set in 2004. It’s held up well for nearly three years. But it’s not the best bar in the world and won’t hold up forever.

I recently purchased a Texas Power bar, and it is VERY nice. I’m using the Texas Power bar for all my main lifts (squat, bench, deadlift), and I’m using the other bar for additional stuff (Olympic lifts, barbell curls, t-bar rows or when I need to superset two exercises with barbells).

Either way, you’ll get years of use out of them!

If you want a nice, relatively inexpensive bar for O-lifting then I recommend Glenn Pendlay’s bar line.

check with your local play it again sports, I just bought a brand new olympic bar for $64.

I actually bought my 300 pound olympic weight set from Dicks sporting goods. It was only 110 bucks. I bought an additional 90 pounds of weights for 45 bucks.

It works fine for me. I don’t see the point in spending 3 times that for something else.

However, 390 is not a heavy amount of weight at all. I think it would be fine with a lot more weight but I’m a long time away from finding out.

Wal-Mart

For damnm sure only way to go for more plates even buying them without a bar is more expensive and you get a free bar thats good to beat the hell up. But they are not quality bars good for a newbie or someone not lifting a considerable amount of weight but once lifting more or getting serious in Oly lifting you’ll want a good bar

Craigslist is a great place to check for plates, too. I bought 1015 pounds worth of oly plates for $180 a couple weeks ago. A guy had to close a gym and was clearing out his weight for $0.20/lb. I picked what I wanted and bought 770 pounds. I knew he wanted to get out of his storage unit soon, so I emailed him a week later and offered $0.10/lb. for his remaining plates. He took it. Now, I need to work on a 1000 lb. pull so I can actually use it all.
