BJJ&5X5

Hey guys, as of monday me and my gym partner will be doing the Reg Park 5x5, this routine involves doing the same workout 3 times a week, consisting of:

3X10 back extensions
5x5 back squats
5x5 dead lifts
5x5 bench press
50 sit ups (my added fluffer)

This seems like it would offer great strength gains that would be very helpful for conditioning, however the 3 weight sessions on top of 3 2 hours sessions of bjj seems like it would be a bit much considering my current state of fitness.

Would doing the 5x5 two sessions a week yield similar results or is it really pointless pursuing it if I can only dedicate two days to it a week?

That’s the problem with strength for combat athletes. They got all kinds of conditioning shit to do. I’d say look into 5/3/1 for MMA.

Move this to combat section.

The workout is far from optimal for many reasons (your goal? exercise selection! done right after BJJ etcetc).

Goal is strength and also pretty muscles, but strength on this program, then will switch to something meant for size after 3-6 months on the 5X5.

As for if its done after BJJ, then no it will be like this:

Mon: 5X5
Tue: BJJ
Wed: 5X5
Thu: BJJ
Fri: 5X5
Sat: BJJ
Sun: public masturbation session rest.

How the fuck are you supposed to fully sqatt with your hip bone going lower than your knees, I can not do that even with no weight, my body just wont move that way!

Why not just periodise your training assuming being better at BJJ is your main goal.

Or if you are less experienced train the minimal amount needed for gains. Just don’t to 5.3.1 or your progress will be painfully slow.
