Bitten by the Lifting Bug

Thanks for those vids. As you know, I have been working on pistols in my cast. I’m up to sets of 6. Was curious to see how you “weighted” them. Have you ever considered powerlifting? You have a phenomenal physique for the sport. How tall are you? And weight? God, I sound like a broken record . . . always trying to get women into it![/quote]

Hi, Snap. Yes, I’ve seen your weighted pistols with that cast; you are a beast! 6 sets already?! GREAT work! I haven’t been doing them very consistently, so most I’ve done are 2 sets per leg, shooting for 10 reps/set. As for my “weighted” ones, I meant simply “while holding weight” to see how it feels.

The powerlifting comment makes me smile. I just told Rick recently that if you had asked me even a few years ago if I had any interest, I would have said “heck, no.” However, now that I have some KB lifting under my belt and have built up confidence with that, I’m developing an interest in lifting in general, hence my request that we expand the training. After KB session this morning, we agreed that end of next week is when I’ll start. He said it will focus on bench presses, bent over rows, squats, and deadlifts for now - essentially filling in where some things might be missed with the KBs. I am SO looking forward to it! Oh - I’m 5’3" tall and weight is currently in the 118-120 range.

Never powerlifted before? You’ll have a blast! And those pistols look good.

We are similar in size. I’m 5’4" and currently just under 110. I’m sure you’ll be in good hands with Rick. I wonder if he’ll have you run the program he sent me. I have a pretty good eye for powerlifting potential. And I think you could be very, very good. Especially at your age and size. I love to encourage women to get into competitive powerlifting because it has enhanced my life so much. Hard to explain really.

Above x 2

Programming will be straight linear until we stall. Then either ladders or wave cycles to keep increasing the load.

Powerlifting! KB, you would do incredible!

Here are some inspiring articles for you!:

Snap & lil power: I appreciate the encouragement! I’ll undoubtedly post vids in the coming weeks, and though you’re right that I’m in good hands w/Rick (scratch that…“great” hands, IMO!), your input is welcome. In addition, no need to even try to explain how powerlifting has enhanced your lives. I can tell it’s something about which you are both very passionate, and that’s all I need to know. It’s the same w/KB lifting for me. Up until 2 yrs. ago, didn’t even know what it was, and now…just couldn’t imagine not doing it - and lots of my friends have no clue as to why.

To that point…Kairiki, thanks for sharing the links. I could have written much of the article myself! Funny she mentioned the sledgehammer; the vids below came to mind immediately. This girl isn’t afraid of getting strong like bull.

Cav - thanks on the pistols. Keepin’ at it…

(Not much left in me in the hammer clip here, but I kept moving. Was 4th or 5th round of circuit that started w/5 sledgehammer strikes per side, then the following across width of basketball court and back: farmer’s walk 45#KB x 2, heavy sled pushes, 70-lb sandbag carry, 15-20 rope slams. Follow person in front of you and keep moving, maybe 5 of us in rotation.)

Your becoming my poster child. LOL

Well, I hope I’m doing you justice.

I’m a big fan of the programs from “Fischer’s Fitness”: lifting, kettlebell lifting, and boot camp - plus support, sarcasm, humor, and a swift kick in the behind when needed thrown in for free. Oh, and let’s not forget: results.

Couldn’t resist digging up the last two vids when I read the first article that Kairiki sent.

Hmm…methinks we should have more vids of Fischer on here…

Tonight’s KB training: “Kettlebell Hades Awaits…” - courtesy R. Fischer

Warmups
merry go rounds x 10, arm circles x 10, toe touches x 10, woodpeckers x 10

Perform complex with non-dominant hand first then repeat on other side:
Complex 1
swings x 7, cleans x 7, swings x 7

Complex 2
swing snatch x 5, clean & press x 5, kbell halos x 10

Complex 3
bottom up (suitcase) holds x5, sotts press x 3, equators x 10

Complex 4
squat & press x 4, swings x 7, cleans x 5

Complex 5
swing jumps, walking figure eights (both of these half court then back), windmills x 4

Complex 6
snatch to overhead squat x 3, 2 hand swings x 10, side press x 3
^^^LOVED the new snatch to overhead squat! (We need to do these more often, Bogatir! Forces us to use good form and to stay tight or it’s a no-go.)

Complex 7
Turkish getup 1-4, swings 1-5, clean & press 1-5 - ladders (1 TGU left, 1 TGU right, 2 TGU left, 2 TGU right, etc.)

Complex 8
swings 1-5, hanging cleans 1-5, swing snatch 1-5, bottom up holds 1-5 - ladders

Used 35#KB for most tonight. Handle on that one is pretty ripped up…hands are sore.

Forgot to do my challenge Day 14 goblet squats at the gym, but I knocked them out upon returning home. 30# KB x 14 goblet squats (this set hurt today).

Extreme boot camp tomorrow. Was told it will be “a good one.” Translation: “You’ll hate me. Lots.”

I always start out my workout doing my Goblet squats as a warm up exercise. Dont know if I could do it after some workouts.

Yes, I’ve noticed in your log that it’s part of your warmup. I’ve been trying to do them as warmup just prior to a full KB session but just forgot to do them first yesterday and was already in cool-down mode when I did them - but I still managed.

I got ya, happens to the best of us.

We are now in that rep range while not hard, gives you a little vision of the future.

Not scared yet, but it may happen.

Ha, those were my thoughts exactly.

Turkish Get-Ups (TGUs)…shudders…this exercise rocks my world. My forearms and arms burn after doing them yet you know what? They are the best rehab exercise for shoulders and rear deltoid. TGUs is a love/hate relationship. LOL

Here is some pain…

Fish, that’s not a man, that’s a cyborg! OUCH!

That is just crazy! Can’t believe he got those last ones done without hitting himself considering how he was swaying back and forth just trying to stand at that point.

Don’t you go getting any ideas, Mr. Fischer. Move along, nothing to see here.

ha, glad to hear that you have found added benefit in this move! btw, what weight were you using? I’ve come to like them myself, though you can really start to feel it when the complex calls for TGU ladders (i.e. 1 left, 1 right, 2 L, 2R, etc up to 4 or 5).

So how did you like the sqauting session? :}

More importantly how about those sled runs…LOL

Good job “little Bogatir” !
