Bitten by the Lifting Bug

Hang in there…There is always the next program …LOL…and you are finishing this one strong baby!

I Promed Jeans Hair for the workout

^^^ Thanks, Missy. Good fun.

It’s a wonder we get any work done, but we do.

It’s great to see how much fun all you gals are having. That’s the key to long term success right there.

Tuesday, 8/28/12
KB session - Wasn’t yet 100% after being sick but showed up to do some light active recovery with a 25# bell. Felt good to get moving after lying around for a few days, but I started feeling it from the pushups that were thrown into the mix.

Wednesday, 8/29/12 - Week 9, Day 2
OHPs
bar x 5 x 1
65 x 3 x 1
75 x 3 x 3

DLs
135/165 x 3 x 1
185 x 3 x 1 - Worksets were supposed to be here, but I had more in me so went for more…
205 x 3 x 2

pullups (neutral grip)
BW x 3, 2, 3 (guess those DLs took something out of me…)

bodyweight ~118, just a touch under today

Here is the first set of DLs @ 205:

…and the second set:

Heaviest I’ve pulled to date. Could feel I was starting to use more of my back on second set but still felt good. I’d say I’ve recovered from whatever bug tried to knock me out Sunday-Tuesday.

Agreed, PG. Game faces come on when they should, but we remember to keep it fun…or at least try to.

Awesome job on the pulls Dragon-Lady!!

Great Work!

As always, thank you for the coaching that got me to that point! So excited at the progress made and ready for more!!

Wed., 8/29/12: evening Boot Camp (same day we did the heavy pulls).

Lots of reps on various core exercises…I think he said something like 234 total? Of course, that’s always just the warmup.

The real work: heavy rope slams, skip w/kettlebell, sled pushes, sprints

Good stuff!

Friday, 8/31/12 - Week 9, Day 3 (last day of current program)

squats
95/115 x 3 x 1
135 x 3 x 1
150 x 3 x 1
165 x 1 - Just wasn’t getting more than 1 here today , but this is a PR. Went back too soon to try for 160 but didn’t get it. I’m happy with the 165…more than I did last week at this time.

bench
65/85/95 x 3 x 1
110 x 3
110 x 2
110 x 1

^^Used much wider grip than usual, and it seemed to be the key. Way better feel, more power, also used more leg drive. Happy happy!

Pendlay rows
95 x 3 x 1
110 x 3 x 3

Next week will test (probably for 2RM at Rick’s suggestion). 9 weeks on this program. What an incredible journey!

Tested for max on deadlifts today…

TWO PLATES!!! That’s 105# over my current bodyweight. A bit of a shame that we didn’t video that one, but that’s ok.

Big shout out to Megaloca and HoJo for all their encouragement today (and Missy, I know you were there in spirit!).

Special thanks to Fischer, whose command “Stand up!” at one point came through all the noise in my head crystal clear and seemed to be when my brain said, “oh, ok!”

Felt like I could have gone on for a little more, but we called it there and I worked on sumos for a bit (maybe 6 sets of 3-4 reps). Good stuff!

Refueled in the afternoon and went back for boot camp in the evening. I survived the bodyweight exercises, sled pushes, bag carries, rope slams, sledgehammer, sprints…though admittedly not without swearing at Rick. It’s all good. LOL

Great Work Jean!

ok, a little catch up on this past week…

I posted on Wednesday that I did my max DL @ 225.

On Monday, 9/3/12, I got a clean 115 on bench, which was just 3lbs under bodyweight that day, so I was very happy. Attempted 120 next. On 3 of 4 attempts, I “had it” but man…just did not finish the lift!!! Haunted me that afternoon…

Did Pendlay rows @ 115, squats 3 x 3 @ 115.
Weighted hypers: 25# DB x 10 x 2
Weighter situps: 25# plate x 10 x 4

Friday, 9/7/12
Tested for max squat. Got 155 x 1 clean; 165 got it, but not as smooth as I’d like.

Then I got to do some bench work with Rick. He had me use his sling shot, which of course was too big for me but still helped.

95/115/120/135 w/sling shot.
115 x 2 and 120 x 1 - without sling shot. YES, got that 120 up! GOOD day in the gym for both squats and bench!

Saturday, 9/8/12
Morning KB session
Nice light session to get moving.

So we finished up the Starr-Pendlay 5 x 5 Advanced program and will be starting up the Intermediate version on Monday. This one will have us squatting 3x a week throughout the program and doing higher volume. We’ll change up some of the accessory work (at least for me) per Rick’s suggestion…GHRs and stiff-legged deads are in my future (ouch…yeah those are fun…). Looking forward to next leg of the journey!

The next “leg” will be ALOT of legs :)…great job jean, your a powerhouse!

You have a great smile

I dont think you are near full strength yet, keep tearing it up!

Great job. I think percent of bodyweight is a more useful measure than pounds over bodyweight (e.g. 2x BW or whatever). Keep in mind that I have been accused of being obsessed about relative strength, however.

Not even close.

Why, thank you - and yes, onward and upward!

Thanks, Snap. Yes, I hear ya…I wrote my goals out earlier this year in that manner (1.5x BW, etc).

Damn! You got it first! Cheers to the next 9 weeks and to Rick and all of his grit & awesomeness!!!
