Jimmy T
Thanks Jimmy T. Start hammering those deads and everything will grow.
BiggJames
P.S. I am going to diet down to 300.
5’9" and 356. Holy God! I thought I was a stout and stocky old man at 5’9" and 215. Rock on with your bad, strong self. If you want to share some of your dead workouts, I’d be eager to listen.
Biggjames,
I just came across this thread and am very impressed, not only with your lifts and homegym, but with your attitude as well. You always seem to have a kind and encouraging word for everyone. We could definately use more people like you in the world.
by the way, how is your sister doing?
james, i lurk on your log a lot, and decided to drop a line and say that you are indeed a large strong man. good stuff, keep it coming, your log and quarter-tonner’s log are usually my first check in spot when i log onto here.
Guys,
Your compliments are too much. I do not know what to say but “Thank You”
By the way, my sister is doing better with her cancer, but now my next oldest sister was just recently diagnosed, with the same type. So I am at a loss.
Thank you so much for everyone’s encouragement through my family’s toughest times. The people on this forum are some of the best in the Iron field that I wish I could meet in person. I will keep training, and I will keep posting, so to all, stay strong and good luck in your endeavors.
BiggJames
James,
Sorry to hear about your sister. Your family is in my prayers.
I’m looking forward to hearing about your strongman training and dieting. I am also a big man, pushing the 3 century mark on my scale. I’m always leary of the strength losses that often accompany weight loss, but I realize I need to drop some pounds. I’m a bit taller than you (about 6’2"), but I know that’s still a lot of weight I’m carrying around. Anyway, you have had a lot of success so any pearls of wisdom you drop here will be appreciated.
james,
concerning strongman training, an acquaintance of mine on another forum, said something one time that i thought was interesting. he mentioned a 10 rep set of deadlifts with 500lbs, said it felt different than what it used to, saying that it had been a while since he challenged himself on barbell deadlifts since he started doing primarily strongman training,
he also said: “come to think of it, pretty much everything i do in the gym now feels different since i started training strong-man…”
have you noticed the same thing, and if so, could you enlighten me on what he might have meant by that statement?

Thanks man,
With strength loss and weight loss. Try your best to keep your protein levels as high as possible. I know their are others on here that will direct you in the right direction. I have found that when I start training strength events that I am a feeding machine. I need more to fuel the fire. But I kind of train like a maniac when I am getting ready for strongman. Heavy weights with as many reps as possible. It is extreme and I do get my ass kicked, but I love it.

He might actually be feeling the rush or an endorphin high. I know when I start to do high rep training, I get that “runners high.” when I finish I feel like I am lighter. After I finish with powerlifting I feel sluggish, but not with strongman. Probably due to the increase of oxygen. I am no brainic but I do know that you can mix aerobic with anaerobic training and it is very beneficial to your health and your training.
BiggJames
ok, i got it i think.
for some reason i thought he was infering that after wrestling with kegs, logs, and stones, that picking up a well balanced barbell just seemed easier of “different”/

It does. You end up working muscles that normally do not get worked doing old fashioned barbell exercises. I have always found that my dead and my overhead press does increase with my strongman training.
And most of all my back grows.
BiggJames,
How is it going?I have been real busy with work. The training is going great and my shoulder is feeling fine.It is getting hot down here.Hope all is well with you.TRAIN HARD!
Jimmy T
P.S. Started the hammering on the deadlifts with rack work this week.
Jimmy T,
Things are going great as I finished up my last essay for school, until fall anyways.

Plus my wife needs to be congradulated for completing her AS in Pysch. Way to go little girl.
